Variety/Themes: I want some

With Seasons 1 finishing and Seasons 2 starting, I'm expressing a pretty common sentiment, everything feels a little ho-hum. The progression rewards from Season 1 and Season 2 aren't that much different, although the 10-pack is still at the delicious 5000 pts threshold.
I'm really hoping for some more themed PVP and maybe PVE. Such as the 'No Man's Land' long long ago. I've forgotten most of the other tournaments that have happened, but I'll remember No Man's Land cos that was different. Hopefully they'll have a No Man's Land when the new Storm and She Hulk are released.
Aside from Divine Champions and Dark Avengers, it has been a while since a themed PVP (not including lightning rounds), and even then, Divine Champions feels like such a long time ago, and Dark Avengers is boring as (Ares/Sentry, Lazy Daken, Bullseye/Moonstone [if you really want a purple power]).
I mean, new ideas like No Americans, or Just Americans. Or Mutants/X-men (with Juggs, cos 1* -> 2* have to be catered for as well). These themes can't be that hard to program in? Can it?
And if D3 can get their stuff together, maybe even more complex/fanciful PVPs, such as restrictions on colours, as in every character has to have a red power (Thor/Pun/Cap), or no purple powers can be used (There goes OBW and the Mags). This might be overstretching technical capabilities, but my core premise remains. A few themed PVPs, rather than the increasingly stale Powered-Up Hero of the moment, would drastically increase teambuilding strategies, a bit more variety, especially among the increasing 2*->3* transitions, I'm midway through it, and although I'm guilty of perpetrating it, OBW really does bore me (I use Hood too). And it would be good for the bottom line too, because the themed PVPs are more likely to attract interest, and by removing some people's stronger characters, they'll be forced to, or more inclined to ISO/Cover/whatever their other heroes, unlike the usual PVPs, where they just use their most powerful characters, Punisher/OBW for me, and whatever dude I'm babysitting.
And this extends to PVE, with my current biggest gripe being the SHIELD agents have the same attacks as HAMMER. I mean, there were new abilities for the Mutant experiments, and the Doombots, but the very good-looking SHIELD agents get stuck with HAMMER attacks, you could at least change the colours, more yellow and blue and red, cos America. Also, maybe some new themed mini PVEs. It'll be like the simulator, with a shortish story and a perfectly legitimate reason for a limited roster (increasing profits, YAY), such as something like cleaning up New York, where Spider Man and other resident New York heroes have to rid the streets of Maggia (Hood shows up, cos there's going to have to be an annoying match sometime). Boom, limited roster, but without the amount of the usual ruckus about limited rosters, which are arbitrary in Heroic Mode, or absent in the current Dark Avenger focused PVE (not that I'm complaining). And maybe have a PVE against Doombots, where they've gone rogue and attacked the Baxter Building. Powered up heroes: Doom (cos they're not listening to him anymore), Invisible Woman (so I can dust her off and actually use my hard earned 4/2/0 IW), Torch, and Bagman!!!!. And maybe chuck in Iron Man and some other heroes with some convenient plot device, and done, you've got your limited roster, a satisfied player base, more money, and the story writes itself.
So, in conclusion, I think MPQ would be more fun if they did some more thematic PVEs and PVPs. Time to grind the PVP before bed.

The problem with No Man's Land and the other theme tournament was that it was back in a time when the event packs had a more limited selection of covers. If they tried No Man's Land now, your 10 pack would give you IM40, 3 Bagman, 2 Bullseye, a 2* Mag, and 3 MHawkeye. Man, those would be so useful in an all female tournament.0

I didn't read all of your post but I completely agree on bringing more variety to the game. I enjoy the new PvE episode even if the goons were copy pasted (apart from their art which I appreciate as well). Thematic PvPs would go a long way to make the game more enjoyable imo.0
