Why bother?

If you’re going to introduce a new mechanic, why bother if you’re only going to have a paltry number of cards that use it? The heroic and anticipation mechanics have potential to be really interesting to use, but limiting the mechanics to six cards for heroic and seven to anticipation makes trying to incorporate or focus on these mechanics pointless, especially since both only limited to two colours each, and heroic utilizing the same buff, I believe you’re wasting our time showing us an underused mechanic, and your time trying to incorporate a mechanic you barely have an interest in exploring or even putting thought into.

I mean, they are somewhat limited by the number of paper cards printed with that ability (or the ability that is based on).  So if the paper set only has 6 heroic cards, then we only get 6 heroic cards.

Now if you're asking why they bother to make just the 6 heroic cards and not just omit them from the set and save the programming complexity for something meatier, that's an interesting argument that sounds fun to have.  But I don't think that's what you're saying here.  (correct me if I'm wrong)

You’re not entirely wrong, but the argument is that a mechanic that is not truly in this set is being rammed into it with all the caution of a mob enforcer with a sledgehammer and all the thought process of a preschooler’s finger painting.
The other mechanics they’ve showcased in this block (Bury/escape; Constellation; Devotion) have a great deal of play value in this block (though I’m not a fan of how they are translating the devotion mechanic), and are true to this block. If you’re going to force feed previous mechanics into a current block, at the very least make it worth the attention.

This just feels like a cascading problem from paper. Conversely, sometimes they will get card mechanics that are worthless outside their set (cannibalistic). It’s a “feature” of Magic.

Of the six cards in this set with Heroic, 5 of them are cards in this set that (on paper) have "Whenever you cast a spell that targets [this creature], _______" which is functionally identical to "Heroic" it's just not formatted as a keyword mechanic. They're not "forcing" mechanics into this set, they're sticking extremely close to what paper MtG did. The only deviation they made was to bring in one actual-keyword "Heroic" card as a Mythic exclusive, so arguably they did make Heroic more worth the attention than it would be if they had strictly followed paper.

When a new paper set comes out, there are plenty of opportunities for players to play with new mechanics; Draft format, in particular.

Long, long ago in paper MTG, they used to print dozens of unplayable cards in a mechanic, along with a single chase rare... look at the first time Morph was printed, Onslaught was full of absolute chaff like Daru Healer and Towering Baloth, with only a few good cards like Exalted Angel hidden away at rare.

WOTC have long since grown out of this, giving players of all types plenty of opportunities to play with mechanics in their new sets. It's high time Oktagon did the same. Honestly, how many 'Food' cards are playable in MTGPQ?

Even if cards are cannabalistic inside their own set, at least they are playable inside their own set.
