Another "who to level" thread.

I guess that, on paper, my transition into the 3* tier is completed as I now have 3 fully levelled 3* characters. However since those characters are Patch, Black Panther and Punisher, there is a lot of overlap and I don't really have a 3* "team". Still, it's enough to clear a higher number of matches on a regular basis, so I have a steady ISO income - and it feels that having a few maxed characters reduces the need to spend the ISO as quickly as before.

I've been looking at the rest of my 3* roster to try and work out where to spend the ISO next, trying to consider the recent changes to the meta and best synergies for my existing characters. Here's the run down of what I have:

Cover capped
Iron Man Mk40 L80 (5/5/3)
Ragnarok L40 (5/5)
Spider-Man L80 (3/5/5)
Hulk L112 (5/3/5)

Missing 1-2 Covers
Cap L102 (2/4/5)
Hood L65 (4/5/2)
Daredevil L63 (5/3/4)
Black Widow L51 (4/3/5)
Loki L40 (5/4)

Soft capped
Doom L53 (4/1)
Thor L66 (1/4/2)
Falcon L64 (2/3/2)
Daken L28 (0/2/1)

The Rest
Psylocke L63 (3/3/4)
Human Torch L53 (4/1/2)
Magneto L50 (5/2/2)

Given the current meta, I would say that Hulk is the only fully covered character I have that warrants further ISO right now, however that's a third Green/Red character so I think I'd still be short on a full team. I've enjoyed using IM40 in the Heroes Lightning Rounds, and he does have a Yellow active, but I'm not sure I'm going to take him just for that.

Speaking of Yellow actives, the top 2 "nearly covered" characters are Cap and Hood. The Hood is definitely currently experiencing a lot of play in the current meta - I don't think I'd pair him with Panther, Punisher seems fast enough already and I'm double dipping on Black if I want to try and Intimidate Molotov cocktails, Patch has no countdowns, but Twin Pistols could help clear the opposing Strike tiles from Berserker Rage once I get that last Yellow cover.

Thor is obviously king of the mountain right now, and if I had the covers I'd level him. I'm also keen to level Daken, since I think he presents some good synergy with, say, Punisher.

So, really, I've pretty much already decided that I should be levelling Hulk, Cap and Hood. There's also upcoming releases to consider: Sentry, She-Hulk and Mohawk Storm. That's likely to be 2 or 3 more Green, Red and Yellow abilities, so anything with a Purple active will only increase its value in the near future, which probably means I need some more covers for Magneto.

Comments

  • I don't have Hulk cover capped and he is still a beast. He's one of the few useful 3*'s I have. High HP and when levelled his green his devastating but also disrupts board control.

I think it's pretty easily Hood. He's pairable with the majority of other characters, and you have 5 covers in his best ability. Yellow and Black are just extra side benefits for Hood.

I wouldn't have an issue pairing Hood with BP on offense. On defense it's a bit trickier because you'd prefer not to have other characters that might interfere with BP's Black ability.

Hulk imo is great on defense and so-so on offense. Hulk's best ability on both offense and defense is anger. Meaning he's best used with strike tile generators and you're going to be doing a lot of healing on him if he's tanking on offense.
  • I definitely think that Hood is your best option, but Hulk is still a great defensive choice as well.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've bumped Hulk slightly and put some levels into Hood.
Some interesting results out of the current Psylocke tournament, I might enter the Simulator earlier than I anticipated and try some more varied lineups.
