What does feeder mean?

I see the term feeder used a lot and have no idea what it means. Can anyone explain? Also I see 5E and 4E used a lot can anyone explain the use of this?

Feeder means a character's champion rewards include covers for a character in the next tier up.  For example, x force wolverine "feeds" old man Logan because you can get oml's covers by getting champ levels for xfw.
5E and 4E mean they are the 5 and 4 * essentials for a pve, in other words, in order to play some of the nodes, you must have those characters or you are locked out of them.

Good news/bad news.

An ally mate was on the super secret developer DisDit server, and found out that there will finally be a big enough event for the devs to release a feeder.  In fact, ALL the feeders!

The bad news is that an asteroid will be colliding with the earth in about 30 days.

On the other hand, I've never heard of DisDit.......maybe this isn't true after all.
