Cannot join The Elderspark event

I am in a loop where I join the event, am told I qualify at Platinum tier, then get a prompt to join the event again. Pixel 3, Android 10.

    After force quitting, rebooting, and then finally just waiting thirty minutes and going back into the event, it had me joined up and I could play.
