Karn Vanguard doesn't count Artifact Vanguards

Karn Vanguard's +1 ability gives a buff based on the number of artifacts you control. Karn's -2 ability gives you a card with the Artifact type in addition to its other types. Using the second ability, I got an artifact vanguard in play, but it was not counted for Karn's +1 ability.
