Frustrated

I've donated up to tier 6 master vip subscription worth $50 per month as I wanted to support the developers and I could afford it . But over time i have seen zero change, lack of content lack of interesting things to do just the same repetitive tasks. Additionally as always they release new cards and sell it at stupidly high prices. Like come on $20 for a mythic and 2 card packs with average rare and mythic droprates. I'll still continue playing but yeah I'm done supporting this greedy company, $50 a month for a few mythic card packs that are from old decks which some can't be used in current events wow...
Sorry everyone about my rant but I do enjoy this game but the devs just want to suck us dry of money and not give anything back

Huge red flag for any mobile game if looking at in app purchases and seeing the avg trend. When I see 99.00 mostly purchased I know all I need to about the cost of actually playing that game.
Take in mind the dev team is small and have to split their time between fixes, new content, and releases. The vip was a way to bring in consistent income since this is a licensed game. Wotc is not lending them the rights from the kindness of their hearts.

$50? Are you buying the master and pro bundles together every month? I gotta ask, why? Master alone provides a HUGE plethora of cards alone.

I pay $30 since the start and am presently at tier 4. ( I didn't partake in the free trial and renew that triggered an additional tier for many players; I paid right out the gate ) My experience with non-dupe packs over the next three months went something like this: (this is not meant to be a brag post... this is simply my experience and at how insane the collection rate is for the Master tier)

    • Started with 99% of Commons collected in Legacy and 100% commons collected in Standard. Had them all from the 1st round of packs.
    • Started with 99% Uncommons collected in Legacy and 100% collected in Standard. Have them all from the 1st packs.
    • Started somewhere between 70 to 80 Mythics left to collect in Legacy. I have all of them now.
    • Started with 46 Rares in Legacy. Have all of them now.
    • Started with only having 4 masterpieces from Legacy in my collection. I have them all now.
    • From What I remember from the Crafting screen for Standard. I started with 2 Mythics left from IXN, 4 from RIX, 1 from DOM, 6 from M19, 5 from RAV, and 11 from the set that followed RAV (sorry I cannot recall the abbreviation for the set). I now have them all including WAR but barring exclusives slash Vanguards. (I refuse to buy Vanguards because if I get a dupe, the Orbs are worth absolutely nothing to me at this point and will be considered a complete loss of time and jewels.)
    • Had 23 rares left to collect when I started, I now have them all.
    • I started with 22 Masterpieces from Standard. I am now up to 57 with 8 left to collect.

I started playing MTGPQ in Nov. 2016 and religiously have played and collected ever since. In just a little over 3 months I managed to collect the remaining cards in what should have taken me over 2 years to do under pre-VIP conditions for playing & collecting in MTGPQ. That. Is. Insane.

    A note of importance:

    • Fblthp (Aka Phillip to some and "Bless you" for those whom thought I sneezed when attempting to pronounce it) arrived after VIP began and dropped non-dupe packs also. This sped up the collection process some as well.
    • With VIP I was raking in 3000 orbs every 2 to 3 days, allowing me to craft additional Legacy Mythics.

I don't think it is fair to judge the effectiveness of how the additional income has impacted the game yet because WAR was already in development and was just about set for release when VIP began. There is really nothing released that was created with additional VIP income; barring Wrenn & 6 and the two new Mythic exclusives (which worked perfectly as designed).

The Fblthp event, in my opinion, is not the result of VIP support and was very likely already in development prior to VIP as well. That said, we should expect to see the result to whether or not the additional income garnered from VIP has impacted the game when M20 releases here sometime (hopefully) soon because it is that set that was impacted right from the get go. From that point forward we should see whether or not the results of the VIP program is helping the game.

I cannot envision anyone whom started before HOU being able to reach the 6th tier. You will have everything by then. I plan to stop and collect normally here soon because with VIP master I will likely have all of the non-exclusive cards of M20 by week 2. Leaving me with a very, very long wait for anything new to play with.

I will say that VIP is a great program for newer players and whom want a more complete collection.

    Peace-

    Gunmix AKA Winterwind in game.

I don’t think you can buy both together. When you buy pro and upgrade to master you only pay the difference.

Thank you for clearing that up.

In my country it's PHP1550 which equates to 50, in other countrys like Australia it's worse. My point is that the pricing is absurd and unsustainable for alot of people.

@Eddyguardo - and I thought Denmark was expensive with ~37$. We pay 25% vat on all purchases which I gather is the reason for the price hike.

I cannot make an informed opinion of how expensive this is in various countries based on their average income. I am sure in many it is indeed too expensive on average and is hard to sustain.

I'm in the U.S. and as I stated above, the return for what you pay for is incredibly high... too high imho. There is absolutely no reason to reach tier 6 unless you're a brand spanking new player.

One common theme in here is how difficult it is to collect mythics and Masterpieces. How difficult it is to collect jewels and crystals. How difficult it is to collect runes and Orbs. The list goes on and on and anyone of us can easily peruse past threads to know that this is the case. VIP master tier literally wipes that mess off the map... I had my doubts about VIP but seriously... there isn't a game I've played yet that gives a player this much access to cards through a subscription. I played Legendary Game of Heroes and I can assure you that it costs at least $20+ dollars USD a week to even be able to compete for prizes and that is with a $30 VIP subscription on top of it. What's even worse is that there is no guarantee that you will even get the cards needed to compete in the event scheduled that week. And the company that makes that games continues to take in thousands daily. I don't know a soul in here that would even dare attempt to play it based on the comments I've seen about $ vs play.

Sustainable or not VIP is based on each  individual's willingness to pay.

The irony is that MTGPQ/D3/Oktagon cannot sustain VIP interest per subscription. They have broken the VIP scale imho. It's far too rich in return compared to other apps. Ultimately in a very short period the subscription will be cancelled. Not because it is too expensive. But because the player has everything accessible through VIP. Best guess is 6 to 7 months for a new player maximum. 5 or less for those that have been playing since IXN.

At some point new players will be turned away unless there is a catch up built in. Getting all the cards will never happen. If it was that bad to have all the cards to play with mtg paper would have fizzled out long ago. The introduction of new expansions and core sets keeps things fresh and hits peoples ocd and new shiney have em’ all check boxes.

so say i get VIP, get caught up and have all cards. Drop ViP, play, play, play, play, M20 drops, my brain fires and what i have been programed for hits me to get the new set as fast as possible, farmed resources not enough, purchase Vip again until this release complete. Farm some more for next set. But rng makes sure it is never enough.

You also have exclusives which also bridge the gaps for in-app spending. The biggest danger to the game is no more expansions. I see it all the time between releases, I am bored, when is the new shiney dropping, i know I still have cards to get but I have all cards memorized and want nee shiney, new shiney, new shiney, aaahhhhhhh.

@Eddyguardo, are you sure it's PHP 1,550 = USD 50?  The current exchange rate is PHP 52.19 to USD 1 so that converts to $29.82.  Even then, I think $30 a month for a mobile card game in the Philippines is excessive as the regular salary over there compared to here in the US is 5-10x lower.  I send money to relatives in the Philippines and If I find out that they use it to pay for VIP, I'm cutting that remittance!  ;P

I also checked this. According to the rates I saw they are pretty much exactly the same, and VIP doesn’t stack.
