Joining Rising Tensions takes your gold but doesn't let you join

Each time I've tried to join Rising Tensions today, joining has failed but I have lost the 20 mana crystals each time. The mana crystal amount doesn't change right away, but at least after restart it shows my mana crystals are 20 less for each time I've tried to join the event. 

I'll be contacting helpdesk, but I wanted to report the situation here as well in case this affects others as well and they don't realize they're losing mana crystals.
