Why does iso cost so much?

52k iso for $100? pretty ridiculous, it would cost over $300 to max out a 3 star at that rate.

using the ratios given 100 HP is worth 260 iso, i'm pretty sure NOONE would pay 100 HP for 260 iso

I think it's on purpose so that ISO purchases only happen for the most wealthy players or as an extreme measure - not sure how leveling works as an extreme measure though.
Some people here have explained that to them, paying for something easily grindable allows to constitute hours of play with less RL time (obviously people with a high earnings/hour ratio icon_e_biggrin.gif).

Simply put, because D3 has no idea how to build a business model and will never share the success of games like hay day which have literally hundreds of thousand more users and range their purchases from .99 to 4.99.

I know that I have very little to no voice on this subject being a strict f2p player, but I hate standing by and watching the developers grenade this game due to greed and lack of good business form.
  • Having cheaper iso 8 either makes the game more P2W or it'll cause the equivalent of a inflation at some point. Right now it takes about $300 worth of iso 8 to go from level 1 to 141, and is obviously way too expensive. Outside of a handful of people I don't know of anyone that actually buys iso 8 regularly, and those guys are well established as whales and they're not in big enough numbers to impact your gameplay outside of jealousy. Suppose we cut the cost down to 1/10 so it costs $30 to level from 1 to 141, then obviously a lot more people will take care of it. Those who do not will feel they're pressured by this P2W mechanism. Now let's say you don't care about the F2P guys, but unless D3's goal is to simply make 3 sales of $30 to you in your entire time of playing MPQ, they'll still try to sell more stuff. This means they'll probably keep on come out with ever increasingly powerful characters to try to get another $30 from you, and at some point people are going to notice that even if it only takes $30 of iso 8 to go from 1 to 141, you sure end up paying that a lot of times.

But a secondary problem is you can also have inflation. That is, if at some point D3 pulled their metric and realized the average player has 5 million iso sitting around because it's so cheap to buy this stuff, they're eventually going to realize that's not a very good thing, and what's likely is at some point you'll see something like 'it now takes 10 times the iso 8 to level, because it's needed for the good of the game'. In SoE's portfolio of games they used to have these double/triple currency sales, which are indeed very good deals to buy. I bought quite a bit of it too since if you work out the math, the currency can be used to pay for expansion/sub time and it's significantly cheaper than paying money when you get double/triple currency. Eventually, SoE figured this out too and then made the currency no longer redeemable for stuff like expansion/subs. But this is inevitable because it's easy to figure out if you plan to spend $100 on a game, but you can get game currency worth $300 you might as well do it and still have some change left for other stuff. I suspect it got to a point where they'd actually lose money because people have so much currency stockpiled from the sales that they either had to stop honoring them or risk losing money. Now, I don't think MPQ's server/capital infrastructure is as big as SoE, but the same point remains. If everyone has 5 million iso 8 because you made it cheap to buy, at some point people are going to realize 'hey I can just keep playing this game forever without paying anything with 5 million iso 8', and if enough people figured this out, as they did in other games, then you somehow end up with a net loss business, and since nobody is going to run a game while losing money, what will definitely happen is at some point they'll then just chop off a 0 or 2 0s off everyone's iso 8 and then everyone gets angry too.
  • $300 for just one character is crazy though.

What game makes you pay $300 just for one character ?

And now, there are 20 or so 3* characters...

Characters should be less expensive, so guys would invest on the boosts and skill would be more important than strength of characters (rich people vs less rich people)
