Is there any point to PvE without mandatory chars?

So I don't have LazyDaken. Is there any point whatsoever in me doing anything on the new PvE?

  • Yes ISO and other prizes. Even if you can't win the 3* prizes, you can still help your alliance and win other things as well.
  • Let's assume for a moment I have no interest in OBW (again) and my alliance has ****-all chances for top 100. Is there any feasible way for me to get top 100 on my own? Yeah, ISO and hero points; I don't give a ****. I want 3* covers, and I can't **** get them because I didn't have the 3* covers necessary to score top 50 in the previous PvP event.

it was PVE that he was originally rewarded in not pvp but I assume that was a typo. he was also a progression reward in the last pvp at 1100 points, you've had 2 chances to get him, and the featured heros in the last PVE were given out for PVP rewards right before, they gave you the chance to get them.

Maybe you could use that ISO and hp and build up your roster enough to actually place well enough in an event to get some 3* covers. You asked what could be the point, there are prizes you can get without daken. If you're not going to try to improve your roster, I don't see why you're complaining you can't win 3* characters.

I have to think it's at least POSSIBLE to top whatever is needed for Sentry. The problem is going to be scaling. If you have a maxed Ares, and some other good maxed 2* and your PvE MMR isn't already very high, then you might be able to grind down all the non-essentials and still place well. It's not going to be easy and I'm not sure I would even recommend you try, but maybe try to do it towards the end of the first sub and then you can decide if you're close enough to keep trying for the rest of the event.

Yes, I've had two chances to get him - either score top 100 in a PvE event where I didn't have a mandatory cover, or score 1100 in PvP, without a single well-covered 3*. Yeah, that's totally going to happen. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hmm... Improve my roster... Let's see... There's an OBW card I'm maxed out on, I could potentially put in the energy to build an Ares from the ground up, there's Moonstone (maxed out)... I'm not exactly starved for ISO here. I feel kind of bad about starting another 2* given that I'd need to buy more spaces, and I like to keep any 3* covers I can get through sheer dumb luck around, in case I run into an event like, I dunno, this one, where having that cover means you can actually compete. So... Yeah. Should I start collecting for Ares?

Nah, don't have an ares. I just grind like crazy. I'll have to give it a shot, anyways...
  • Yes there is. One can never have enough iso. If you get one or two covers of something you'll need a few thousand iso to level your char. It's nice to have it saved up instead of having to grind it out from zero. Also HP. Placing top 50 in the subs will get you 50 HP. Placing top 200 in main will get you 50 HP. Both are doable even without the required char if you do some grinding, especially towards the end of the subs/the event. Assuming you do so for all three subs + main, you'll get 200 HP. Add to it the 50 HP from alliance if you have a top 2500 alliance (with 5 regular if casual players, totally doable) That's good for a couple shields in the next PvP to help you get another 3* cover. Or save it up for another slot. You'll never have too many slots. Also, heroic/event tokens. Now tokens are a gamble, but for what it's worth, from the last PvE where I got maybe 6 or 7 tokens all told, 3 were 3* covers. And if not, no skin off my teeth. Win-win in either case.

Winning every cover every time is not doable for most players. Doesn't mean everything else is completely worthless.

Also, I do not regret building an Ares despite already having Thor - I use Ares much more often in PvP these days, although Thor's still better for PvE imo. I'm also going to max out Wolvie, despite having five maxed 2* already. Why? Because I like doing something while waiting for those 3* to tumble in by chance or luck, also I want to try playing him at full strength and see what he can do.

You get an event token at 10,000 points in the Sentry PVE. It has a 2.4% chance of a Lazy Daken. Should be achievable after a few refreshes of the regular nodes.
  • Daken is also available at 45000 points, which actually looks reachable this time around (so afr).

While having the featured character is a huge deal, it is still important to do well overall to build up your supporting team. Assuming you didn't spend money into Daken, it's not like a level 15 Daken is going to single handed win the essential nodes by himself.
  • I found out the answer is "no". Grind my way up to 30th, sleep 6 hours, and drop 400 rankings.

    That happens to everyone.
  • I think a lot depends on the exact event structure, and what exactly you hope to get out of the event. There have only been two hero specific nodes in the current event, and 8 other ones, so you can actually have decent scoring potential without the featured hero. OTOH, the previous Oscorp events had, IIRC, 3 missions requiring the featured hero and 5 or 6 other missions and the last simulator series had 3 featured and 7 other but one of those wasn't repeatable. So it looks like there's a lot less of a scoring advantage for having the special hero. And I was able to place better than I usually do without the featured hero yesterday.

Even if I'm not going to get the Sentry, there's still an Ares and several event tokens in the point track, and at least a heroic token just from the top 400 out of 1000. There's no one event that will give you enough 3 star covers to make a 3 star equal to a maxed out 2 star.
  • I've been playing awhile but new to the forums.

I'm not hot on this event. I don't like Sentry's powers and find him a huge pain. Not really upset that I probably won't be able to win him this go round even though it will make the next events easier.

That said, I do these events even without the featured character because any chance at a cover and more ISO is good. It lets me build up my roster and makes the next event easier. I got really lucky and had the featured character for the last 3 events. That was nice and I'm sure I can get that again. Not having LazyDaken, another character I give a flip about, is a bummer but I'm hitting the nodes while they are available and using the rewards to keep making my roster competitive.

That's a bit of a grind at times as I find this PVE the most aggravating one yet, but if it helps me next event it will be worth it.

Read some of the PVE guides about rubberbanding. Also, he's a prize for this Psylocke event so you can still get one before the end of this PVE if you're willing to work towards it.
