Demolish vanguards & Kiora drain

Demolish isn't supposed to target vanguards, I know. But my Demolish did cast and simply fizzled.
Opponents Kiora drained me for 6 with their 1st ability, but it took the 6 mana from my 2nd card in hand. My 1st card (full BSZ) was untouched. Might have to do with the stored mana.
