Could we get old versions of old events?

I know we're getting new events with WAR, but considering how often TDW is run I'm not hopeful that we won't continue being bored for the foreseeable future.

So, if we're getting old events anyways, why not try the original (and better harder) versions of the same old same old events we've been getting for the last year or so?  It would be a nice change of pace/nostalgia

For those that don't remember:

Nodes of Power:  No secondaries.  Just win.

Terror in the Shadows:  Tribal objective is the same.  Second was based on set mechanics (delirium on Spirit/Zombie node, Madness on Zombie/Horror node, transform on Wolf/ Werewolf node)

Emrakul's Corruption:  Tribal objective is the same (6 EA).  Second was summon 6 or more Eldrazi for all 3 nodes.

Oath of the Gatewatch Event:  Opponents used their abilities every turn.  Some did not match gems, instead relying only on mana gains from their ability (Cyclone Sire, Jori-En, Drana's Chosen...ect)

I think that's all of them  If I missed one, comment below!

While I’m a big fan of an Old NOP type event... (no objectives, free for all)

We stormed the forum to have EC changed and I, for one, will live happily if I never see the old version back.

I do remember that, but it's a lot easier to meet the objective nowadays.  Back then we had pretty much only
mono-colored walkers and limited ways to cheat creatures out.  Now we have a ton of super powerful walkers and a lot of easy ways to flood the field.

I just think it would be a fun challenge, is all.

Is this true? I don't remember this at all!
Yup!  In the original run there were a few fights that didn't match gems at all.

Then when it was first converted over to the current format the opponents still used their abilities every turn but could also match gems.

Then at some point (after Oktagon took over) the opponent abilities got loyalty values so they act like normal fights.

It is said as time goes on the bad memories fade to the good ones. So many bad things of old events will be forgotten in many instances until one plays them again to be remembered why they hated that event. Much like relationships.

Perhaps you don't remember it as well as you think. The challenging incredibly annoying part of those objectives wasn't getting the required number of creatures out, it was getting that many of the required creatures out before you killed your opponent. I have been a long-time advocate against objectives which are some variation on "play badly", and having to play 12 creatures (that aren't lifelink soldier tokens anyways) before winning requires, in many matches, playing very badly indeed, and/or running a lot of garbage creatures. Being able to dump a ton of creatures on the field doesn't really help with that issue, in fact it's probably counter-productive, although the HP-inflation of newer walkers might, a little.

Neither better creature-cheating nor more powerful walkers does anything to alleviate the frustration of running a deck aimed at playing 12 creatures before you win and running into somebody who just decided not to give a hoot about the secondary objectives. Deploy + Olivia + Pig was right in its heyday back then.

I get that nostalgia gives everything a nice rosy glow but no, absolutely no, do not ever bring back those terrible terrible objectives. While we're at it, since Oktagon is still really hit-or-miss at figuring out which objectives will make things fun or not (for example: Pauper: fun for PvP, bad for PvE) maybe we could just try not to send them a bunch of mixed messages by suggesting that old, awful, secondary objectives had any redeeming qualities to them.

If you, personally, want to play EC with the old objectives, you can! Just keep track, yourself, of how many Eldrazi and whatevers you've played in a given match and try to hit 6 of each before you win. See if it's as fun as you imagine.

I get what you're saying, and maybe I'm overestimating the power creep we have, but you're telling me you couldn't make a deck that can drop a half a dozen vampire tokens and scions at once along with a couple creatures?

Especially with the vampire focus in Ixalan and the new Scion cards in DDZE I would assume that the only hard one would be werewolves, and since that one is green and we have Tamiyo/Brokhan I don't think it would be much trouble either.

I mean, the incredibly sub-optimal Tamiyo deck I'm running in the current EC usually plays 8-12 creatures in a turn once it gets rolling.  I'm sure we could collectively come up with some great ideas that make the rest easy too.
