Killer Instinct + Macabre Mockery lock [Investigating]

I just had a lock when I murdered a Starled Awake, brought it back with Macabre Mockery, and cast Killer Instinct on the same turn. I didn’t have any creatures on the board, so I’m guessing since MM and KI both kill the creature at the end of the turn maybe that had something to do with it. I was using Angrath and the opponent was Bolas 1.
