Steam loading issue [Solved]

On opening the game, I get stuck on the loading screen.  No percentage ever shows up, it simply says "Loading...".  If I close the game from this screen, it doesn't close properly, and steam still thinks it is running.  I've tried restarting a couple times and it does not fix the problem.

Any ideas?
