One idea that would help reduce the brackets of Doom

and make the game more strategic would be to cap the amount of hero points that can be spent per PVP. For example if you limited the shields expenditures to around 500hp. People would still have the ability to shield hop, and level the playing field between the haves and have not. I know, I know they would never consider an idea that limits a players ability to spend their way to victory. But I think it would force players to be more strategic in their shielding and actually help balance the game.
I sincerely think that one of the key drivers of a 1000 point game is the ability to protect and grow a lead through shield hops, or do you think scores might increase because more points would be injected into the game through retaliations?
One thing that is frustrating to me is that as the event winds down, the available pool of players seems to wind down. I'm generally stuck battling in the 700-800 range and I never see opponents higher than 50 points of my score. As a consequence, every battle I do is around the 20-25 range, but as I slowly increase I open my self up to bigger retals from people that i've now pushed passed. Its as if the optimal strategy is really to race out to a certain point threshold and shield out the rest of the game.
I don't think a game mechanic that encourages people NOT to play is ultimately going to be as successful one.
