Eldrazi Scion - no mana gained on die (also Cruel Reality / Sunforger)

I ran into an issue today with not receiving mana when an Eldazi Scion dies.


I found i was not receiving mana from my Eldazi Scion when it died with a Sunforger in play under a couple conditions.

Scenario 1:
So i have an Eldrazi Scion in play 1/1 and a Sunforger +5/+0 to first creature => 6/1 Eldrazi Scion.
The AI has a Cruel Reality in play, on the beginning of my turn it gives my Scion -3/-3. => 3/-2 Eldrazi Scion
So i expect to receive 9 mana (3 * 3), i get none.

Scenario 2:
So i have an Eldrazi Scion in play 1/1 and a Sunforger +5/+0 to first creature => 6/1 Eldrazi Scion.
I cast the Intervention side of Integrity // Intervention to deal 3 dmg to my Scion, it dies
So i expect to receive 18 mana (6 * 3), i get none.

Integrity was cast
Intervention dealt 3 damage to Eldrazi Scion
Eldrazi Scion was destroyed
Eldrazi Scion was triggered

So i expected it to gain me mana, but i got nothing
