Response to Starfall's challenge

Somewhere in this forum in a discussion about VIP or pay to win or something, Starfall made a comment that said something along the lines of "make a video of a standard pauper deck hitting progression in TOTP".

I dont believe this game is pay to win at all. Pay to play easy mode sure but I dont believe you NEED mythics to win.

So here is the video, it is not interesting really, it's just the evidence.

Well done. I'm curious how it'd do in the red, green, black, or blue nodes, when you run into crazy Brokhan/Bolas decks on every node (with a smattering of Kiora and Ral).

I just finished blue. I wasnt able to get the Crystal's but I did get all the gems. My record in blue was 7-5. I have a video for that too.

This is pretty much an exact description of how the blue node was.

I'll try pauper but not standard pauper. I cant make it through a big bracket event without multiple freezes/soft locks anyway.

Kudos for going 7-5--that sort of margin is what I'd expect more often than not.  I definitely agree that skill, dedication, and patience can net you victories, but I'd also posit that possessing certain key cards makes that process easier. While I don't think PQ can be pay to win--there's too much randomness (including in which cards you obtain/craft)--it's definitely pay-to-make-your-life-a-heckuva-lot-easier.
Having a strong collection limits the degree of variance in these matches.  Running into certain decks in Legacy events is like facing a bomb with a hidden timer; it's a race to see if you can win before they go off. Hence the move towards combo.  The longer the game goes on, the greater chance each subequent turn will be the one where Greg casts Omniscience, or BSZ, or starts an Rx/HoP loop, or summons a fistful of Ball Lightnings, or what have you.

Most of the events can be played with relatively small collections successfully thanks to good deckbuilding, investment and a bit of luck here and there.

However, the big diference is the time you'll need to get through the diferent fights.

A strong totp deck can get rid of the event in 20-25 minutes ...  A pauper totp deck would require much more time.

Of course, if you're playing an overpowered archetype it also reduces the luck factor drastically, but time economy is probably the most meaningful quality of life improvement.
