Because all you other buggers have chat threads and I wanted one as well.

Greetings to any lurking 141ers, and to anyone else curious enough to poke your nose into this thread.

  • If any French speakers wandered in here expecting a dimension of cats I'm sorry to say there is nothing even slightly feline here.

I'm sorry, I've let you down, I've let myself down, but most of all I've let your tyres down while you were distracted. *Psyche!*
  • Starting to think that it'll just be me posting in here, so expect a well documented trail of my descent into inevitable madness.

    2* card trick:

I've had this work for me, but still not sure if it's just coincidence, so buyer beware. To ensure a 2* card reward (rather than 70 or 140 ISO) in a PVP match, do the following steps:

    1. Enter the match to the screen which show your three opponents and the toggling 2* cards at the bottom right.

    2. Wait for the first 2* card to fade and switch the the second 2* card

    3. Just as the second 2* card begins fading, but before the third 2* card appears (not exactly sure of timing), hit "start game."

    4. From that point on (adding boosts, checking info on enemy), timing doesn't matter, so long as you entered as described above.

    5. Caveats: you must have won your prior match for this to work. Also, sometimes, after several successful card pulls, it seems to reset and only offer 100 ISO as the reward option. It should work again afterwards.

This is not my theory, just passing it along from another game, fwiw. Please share your results!
  • As far as getting 2* rewards, it seems that I get more of them when I'm further up the bracket of a PVP tourny. After I hit 800 in Rangnarok, I got 3-4 2* cards for 5-6 rounds played. It may have just been a coincidence, but it makes sense that they'd give them out more heavily to those that need them the least icon_e_smile.gif

Those were rough hours for those of us in the pacific timezone. Sorry to leave you hanging last night. Don't we look all official now.. Having a chat thread, pretty soon we'll have a team plane. (I am still working out why we would have one, but I'm sure the SHIELD guys have one...)
  • I think next we need to get a team logo for our forum signatures. Somebody get on that!
  • Long form question: do you guys actually read all the text when you go through a story event for the first time? Just curious if I was the only one who doesn't care at all about the story in this game. I stared out reading it and found it kind of obnoxious, so I stopped. I think the only thing I've read since my very first pass through the H.A.M.M.E.R. chapter of the Prologue is when we got to use the Devilsaur. That piqued my curiosity. icon_e_smile.gif

I've seen most of the event skeletons at least once, so I tend to skip them now... Though a couple of venom's lines make me chuckle... 'Canned meat' priceless.
  • I always read it first time around, you do get the occasional good line in there. The rest of the time I just make up reasons in my head why they're fighting, maybe Hulk ate Punisher's packed lunch and he wants justice, or maybe Ares and Thor are arguing over who the best football team in Asgard are and the discussion has got a bit heated.
  • I think I can confirm that you get more 2*'s as rewards in PvP the higher you are in the bracket. When I was finishing up the SHIELD training event (SHIELDed at 2258, yay!) I got 5 cards as rewards and 4 of them were 2*. Same goes for Krakadoom event: almost all 2* cards. Whenever I start out in these events and am in the lower brackets, it's mostly 1* cards.

TL;DR: Make sure you score really high in PvP and you'll get better rewards! icon_e_smile.gif
  • I've noticed the same, tried the method you described but as you go up I think there's certainly something working to up the relevance of the cards.

If they could give me some Lazy Thors or 4-star rewards that would be nice.
  • So is everyone just hoping that someone else will pull the trigger and boot Frankiexe? I'm personally looking forward to the moment where we all get back on track for top 100 and getting covers again for the alliance reward. (I do know we have Faust and Raptor on holiday, but still.) Thoughts anyone?

Even though the majority of us are commanders, I feel that decision should still rest with the original commander. That, I believe, is Simius.

Well, Frankie has also become a no-show according to the daily reward. It may be time to audition a replacement. We still have time in the 2 active events to slot someone in with a non-zero score and maybe change our fate?
  • I have to apologize right from the start here but I need to be honest and serious for a moment. We have an event ending soon that almost every member on the team needs a card for and if our current score is a consistent with the way our pvp matches normally turn out I have reason to be concerned...... First, there is no pve right now. Second, there are no lightning rounds. Third, 19 out of 20 people need magneto cards. Fourth, I can't recall anyone expressing a real life event preventing them from putting up some points... The point of all this is I don't want to lose our team, but I think people are getting quietly frustrated with our overall performance. There was a time where we all got together on the chat and anxiously awaited our rewards, but people are falling silent, and I assume that's why. I don't think I need to point fingers at our under performerss because those of us that care already know who is dragging us down.... If you don't know who is not producing you can ask I have been taking screen shots of our performance. The point here being..... Kadav left a team that started falling apart to come to our team and he is doing great, we have a couple guys failing our new guys, and failing us. If you are reading this, odds are it's not you.... I don't want to be overly negative, but I want to keep winning. There is still a middle ground between hardcore you must produce or your out and just having guys not produce. I want the team to stay together, but if guys aren't showing up to the ball field, I don't know why we keep them on the roster.... Part of the fun is winning, I like our team, let's figure out a way to keep it fun for everyone that still wants to play.

I agree with Rick. Winning solves all ills. While I don't want to be hardcore (since it appears many of us have lives beyond playing this game), I don't want to be so casual that we start consistently missing rewards. Our problem, same as the majority of other alliances, seems to be burnout and the increasingly harder and harder events. Unfortunately, burnout leads to losing. With Lev's impending vacation, we run the risk of falling further behind. I'm sure he won't be the last one to take time off. We can't continue to remove and replace members, especially if they have legitimate reasons.

So what do we do? I propose we try to build a pool of temporary members. We recruit from "within the family" to start. If anyone has a relative, or friend, or co-worker that plays casually who wouldn't mind some extra rewards or Iso for one or a few events, let's put them on a stand-by list. Whenever a member takes time off, we can slot someone in while they are gone. We could even open up our recruiting to other players who may have burned out and have cut back on their playing. I don't remember who it was that had a girlfriend that played casually, but perhaps she could be the first recruit. I understand that there is a lot of trust and faith that goes along with this plan. I certainly don't want to go on vacation and find out that my seat is permanently occupied. But if everyone is in agreement, perhaps this is plan that can help reduce the frustration that many of us are increasingly feeling.
  • Hey all.
My facebook MPQ account name is AJBCLF AJBCLF. If you add me maybe we can get each other some extra iso...

+1. I like Honu's idea, though it may be difficult to implement.

  • Just a point on removing chronically underachieving commanders: In my previous alliance, commanders were removed by submitting a ticket to D3. Allegedly, non-participation was required.

I would never advocate kicking someone simply because of low scores, mind you. I mean, scores suffer due to family obligations, holidays, etc, all the time. (that's what casual play means, after all) Hell, I basically missed two of the first three PvPs due to being out of town with family over the memorial day long weekend.
What I would advocate is kicking non-participants.

Looking at our current season 2 scores:
Top 5 are >4k; call them "Upper Tier"
Middle 10 are ~2k-4k; call them "Mid Tier" (I am slotted here, myself)
Bottom 5 are <2k; call them "Lower Tier" (again, could be for legit reasons, could be due to non-participation)

Substituting a Lower Tier non-participant or two with a Mid Tier participant can net us potentially several thousand points, especially when the totals are extrapolated out to the end-of-season totals. This would go a long way toward securing a top 100.

The thing that I find most frustrating is that people appear to be doing *something* - since I have gotten 300 ISO (20/20 members) in the last 2 days of daily resupply bonus... But whatever they are doing is not in an alliance-benefitting context - at least not obviously so. We have players with 0 points in Psylocke, and the PVE closed > 1.5 days ago. Anyone playing yesterday didn't have other 'alliance-friendly' options to have played and still counted to our participation number.

I think missing half a season seems like a pretty compelling reason to voluntarily step down so that the team still has a chance to win. We will welcome you back next season, if you come back refreshed and ready to go - but hoping we can carry the load across 19 people isn't going to carry water this season - especially with guys not participating in events.

I feel conflicted complaining because I missed a PVP event over the holiday weekend and I feel like **** about it. But I was out unable to play for 3.5 days of the last PVE and still was in the top half of overall scores in our alliance. I'm just having a hard time not being super-frustrated about possibly missing the Purple Magneto card that I need because a few members aren't competing in an event where virtually everyone benefits from individual performance *and* from a team win.

The season 2 prize may not survive as many zeroes as we are poised to try absorbing. It's getting harder to recruit players as the landscape gets more competitive... That trend will only get worse if we start a trend of not winning the alliance prize.

If people don't step aside when extended absences are unavoidable then there may not be a worthwhile alliance to return to when they come back. If I were poised to miss a large chunk of part of season 3, I would rather now out feeling I was maybe going to come back to an alliance that had a chance of winning season 4....
