One Final Effort using Loyalty abilities when spyglasses are in play

During a recent play through of One Final Effort, I dropped Sorcerous Spyglasses into play and the opponent  was able to use loyalty abilities. 
This is, of course,  the third challenge of A Journey through history, space time catastrophe.
