Totp infinite searching for opponent

So I paid 60 yellow crystals for an event I can't even play right now... Because it keeps searching for an opponent on and on. What's up with that?! How does the matchmaking happen right now? Is the new level system responsible for this?
I swear I stopped playing this event in a long time, and decided today maybe the purples are worth a bit more for the time being. BAD BAD decision.
