Riot - You wanna give that hasted creature... haste?

Riot is a nice mechanic. I like it.

However, if my creature already has haste, and I cast the same creature, just give it +1/+1. No need to ask me every time.

I noticed this when the mechanic was described, and thought that was a strange choice. I thought there were enough negativity and perhaps they would make an adjustment.

Basically, The lower the stats a creature has the less likely I think it is, that I will choose the haste option. 1 extra damage per round is most likely preferable to getting an extra round of damage.

in paper +1/+1 most likely means a lot more since it is 5% of the total life of the opponent. In MTGPQ it is who cares. But I see the problem it’s having it being +5/+5.

Or they could have just made it "Riot X" where the creature either gets Haste or +X/+X, and that way bigger creatures could have a bigger value for X.

I haven't looked too closely at the creatures that have Riot but I generally think Haste is pretty good, especially in the extremely removal-heavy environment of PQ.

This isn't about whether Haste or +1/+1 is better when choosing.

It's about a creature that already has Haste coming in to play with Riot and still having to choose Haste or +1/+1. Obviously, give it the +1/+1 as it already has Haste! You can't double haste a creature.

Basically "If target has Haste; then give +1/+1. Else; choose" or something.

Fair enough @Brakkis, I didn’t mean to highjack your thread. I just thought that the choice was meaningless most of the time, which I gather is also your point.

A few haste applications and the creature will attack a turn in advance. A few more and you can attack from the draw pile. ;)

There are edge cases where you don't want your creature to get bigger, just not many!

In paper MTG, you can give your creature double or even more instances of haste at a time. So, this is pretty faithful to the card game.

yeah, the mechanic is pretty close to the paper version. I think the closest it could be..although a "haste if no haste, buff otherwise" would have been a QOL change to the mechanic. Casting March with the Riot support on the board takes ages!

It'd be cool if haste countered disable for a turn. Would give some funcionality to double hasting your riot creatures as well as make all those dumb creatures that grant haste before anything has entered the battlefield.

There are times to be faithful to the paper version of a card, and times not to be. Afterlife should be faithful to the card version as it's much weaker otherwise. For every creature that dies, reinforcements included, create a spirit token. Otherwise, they've essentially nerfed the effect.

Riot should not; purely as a QoL change. You can't double haste a creature in PQ. In paper, each creature is unique and thus choosing for each one matters. Here, they stack and reinforce and so choosing only matters the one single time you pick Haste and not after.

is kinf of a pain on something like march of the multitude, 12 life link soildier and having to do them all separately i give the first haste then the rest +1/+1 so it ends up a 23/23 hasted lol

You guys do realize March isn't supposed to be benefit from Rhytm of the Wild, as it clearly reads "creatures in your hand... gain Riot".

But I do agree that the "adaptation from paper magic" is kind of silly due to how creatures stack in MTGPQ - hence let's not go overboard all the time with "mot-a-mot" translations. I CAN see the point of initially giving a creature +1/+1 instead of haste, but once the creature already has haste, there's no point in "popping the question". Just grant it +1/+1 and be done with it.

just noticed it missed the creatures in your hand part and after the first time did the haste first +1 rest and after that it was mastered and on to other cards, besides it was a pin to do lol
