Scab Clan Berseker not Striking Twice

In a couple recent matches (both TG and RT) I gave Scab Clan Berserker double strike by using Samut's first while Greg had a creature on the board.  It attacked Greg's creature to kill it, but did not attack a second time.  The double strike worked correctly on Scab Clan Berserker when there was no opposing creature on the board.  It also worked correctly when applied to other creatures with Berserker - for example, Ghalta attacked the creature first and then attacked Greg when the creature was dead.

Working as intended, Ghalta has trample, Scab Clan Berserker does not.

Your creature is still considered blocked whether or not the opposing creature dies from the initial strike.  Any excess damage only goes through if you have trample.

That part makes sense, but if true then the visual could be improved.  Ghalta's second strike makes it appear as though it's attacking Greg on the second strike rather than the 0-toughness creature.  In the Scab Clan case the second strike simply doesn't happen at all.  Combined the visuals make it seem like the second strike is supposed to bypass the dead creature rather than hitting it.

I guess it also follows from other questions on when a creature actually dies, since it sits on the battlefield with 0 toughness until the end of combat.  Should a dead creature count as a blocker for the second strike, or should the second strike move on to the next target creature/PW?  A second creature on my side with berserker wouldn't attack a dead creature in Greg's first slot, so should double-strike?

The FAQs aren't much help here, it just says "Creatures with Double Strike deal damage twice during combat - once before the opposing creature can retaliate, then once as normal."  "As normal" could be read as a second independent attack.

Not saying how it exists is necessarily wrong, just looking for clarification.
