Retaliation rewards?

so i got off last night somewhere around 800 in the heavy metal event and come back this morning to -142(typical of what i'd expect to get down to) and i have 2 new 1* covers in my roster. So are they giving us rewards if we get retaliated against too much? cause the Mstorm cover i got said it was from "Retaliation Hell..." not the usual "from defeating (username)" that i usually get them from

    I think they say if you won them by attacking, or won them retaliating against someone who had attacked you.
