Weekend Events

I have been really happy since the ravnica update came out, because I feel like there is finally a decent event you can grind if you happen to play enough to need more to do than what is offered. The guild events are very generous with rewards, and as long as you keep the secondaries in mind, they offer more runes per match than anything else repeatable we had before - heroic Gideon can rest easy for now.

That being said, I think there is a weird side effect now on the weekends. On a weekday, we have a guild event, trials, training grounds, and usually one or more multi day PVE event to play if we have time. And this is great! If you have time and desire, there’s a lot to do. But on the weekends now the game feels a little empty. It used to be that the big coalition event was saved for the weekend, when presumably, we all had more time to devote to a big multi match event with big rewards. It was probably more stark this weekend due to the left node of the elspeth event being non-functional, but I’ve noticed it the last few weekends.

I totally get that not everybody has the same amount of free time, and balancing too much to do and not enough to do is complicated work for a game like this. If you make too many things, people feel overwhelmed and maybe drop the game. So it’s not like I want to seem like I’m being glib about game design and balance. But what I would really like is something else to do on the weekends, when I usually have a little more free time! I mean sure, I could get a new hobby or learn Dutch or whatever, but that’s another issue.

I personally loved when there was a duel deck event paired with a smaller PVE event. I think a really good alternative option though is to have something like a guild event available, in terms of being able to grind out some rewards. I know I could do training grounds, and sometimes I do, but with how the rewards are set now, it feels kind of underwhelming.

Anyway, good work overall! The new set is awesome, and I’m really happy you replaced across ixalan with something more robust! Keep up the good work!

I would take it a step further Rambo, and say that the suggestion has been forwarded that 2 events should always be run simultaneously - a coalition event, and a non-coalition event, and to mix them up as PvP and PvE events. That way, when there's bug problems there's at least other things to do and ways to earn rewards, and people have options to play as they wish to play. Then it would be less catastrophic when a node goes bad, or when they forget to schedule the weekend AI like they planned, and people that want to play more can have content to keep themselves busy while the rest can just play as much as they want to play.

I'm not sure the suggestion ever received an answer, but as you can see there's still lots of free time available for players on weekends and not a whole lot of content. Funny thing is, I know that I personally don't have enough time during the week to do the OGW's and whatnot they schedule, especially since they upped the max progression amount to 60 on RT. I don't mind though, because I play the amount of time I have available to play, and it doesn't hurt my coalition when I don't participate.

But I still have opportunities to play on weekends that go unrealized...and that I just don't understand... :/

I had thought Across Ixalan was supposed to be every weekend, but I probably misread the patch notes somehow.

I second everything said above, except more strongly. I have never understood why they hate giving us stuff to do on the weekend.

@ReadingRambo You certainly make a fair point! I think one of the challenges the team has always faced is figuring out what event schedule works for as many people as possible. You've provided some great insight, and I'll be sure to pass it along to them.

I think because there had always been a 1-day Across Ixalan event running every Saturday, players understandably assumed that the new 2-day version of Across Ixalan would also be run every Saturday, however that's not the case.

Across Ixalan is now just like any other 2-day event where it can be freely scheduled at any time.

People can always choose not to play but we can’t play if there is nothing offered. I suggest erring on the side of offering more and letting those undesirous of extra play simply leaving it undone.
