Greg and Beacon Bolt

Apparently, the AI is incapable of targeting anything other than it's own Planeswalker with Beacon Bolt.

I've had none, one, two, and three creatures in play when the AI casts it. Hits itself every time. I've had the AI have one, two, and three creatures out alongside mine. Shoots itself. I've had tokens, small creatures, big creatures, heavily reinforced creatures, etc.

I literally watched a Bolas deck loop itself to death by shooting itself with every Beacon Bolt.

In general the AI performs poorly with spells that have many possible targets.  I would suggest that offensive spells should never target their own stuff.

When I first started playing, it never did.

As the game grew and got more complex (and the AI was lobotomized several times) the AI started targeting its own creatures only with kill spells that have secondary effects and only if the player did not have a creature out (presumably to get the secondary effects).  This was "fixed" in several updates, but seems to have been done on a card-by-card basis instead of a global fix, so that each new set introduced new cards that the AI would target its own creatures with.

Now, the cards that were fixed appear to be back to their original programming (where the AI uses them on its own creatures) and new cards are coming in the same.  There hasn't been a fix in ages, and based on how Oktagon's patches have worked lately, I doubt it would help the issue.

I'm aware of this issue but in the case of Beacon Bolt, it's been taken to the next level. The AI outright ignores any creature in play, mine or his own, and only hits his own Planeswalker. Every single time.

I think @octal9 has some insights in this.. But likely got tired of repeating them
