Opponent casting Switcheroo with Hostage Taker as their first creature = freeze

Gotta love them bugs especially when it's Greg leading to sweet delicious freezes. 

My board consisted of Etali as a first creature + another creature
Greg had Hostage Taker as a first creature + another creature
Greg cast Switcheroo (I say, what an idiot)
Hostage Taker gets under my control - ETB trigger leads to selecting a creature
I can only choose one of my creatures (either Etali - yes, still on my side of the board, or the other creature stack). I cannot choose any of my opponent's creatures
I try to cancel - yeah right... you think that would be that easy?
I decide to eventually choose of my creatures + click confirm - I can definitely select it, just can't confirm - nothing happens
I try the other one - same issue except they both appear selected now
I still fiddle a few times in-between them trying various combinations - nothing!

Outcome: basically I am soft locked!
