When do tokens count as "cast" creatures and when don't they? Inconsistencies. [Investigating]

A little while ago while playing an event that had an objective to summon a number of zombies, none of the token zombies that I summoned counted. But today I am playing an event that had the "MEEK" objective: "Cast 4 or more creatures with toughness 3 or less." and it counted the 11 saproling tokens that I summoned. The saprolings are the only things in my deck with a toughness less than 3 and all of them were summoned using spells like Saproling Migration and Spore Swarm. 

Is there a way to know when the game will count token creatures created by a spell as "cast" and when it won't? I didn't expect them to be counted.

Further to this, I'm getting credit for casting Squee when he naturally returns after getting killed.

The team is aware of this inconsistent wording and the issue is being investigated.
