Weird forum "New" sticker behaviour.

I view the forums using the website on Chrome on a PC (in case it's relevant!) and weird stuff has _just_ started occurring the last little while.

When I go to read things I look over the list of article titles and which ones say "New" to say there is new content, I right click each of these and open in a new tab, go through each tab in turn and close them when I'm done. This way I don't miss anything or get confused, and if it takes me a little while to get through everything it's still fine.

Later on, when I want to see what is new again, I reload the page for General Discussion and go through the same process.
In the past this worked fine and the "New" signifier was only on things with new content.

But now the new signifier might appear on something 5 threads from the top and I can go in and there will be nothing new at all, and the timestamps confirm it.

I'm wondering if people "liking" something is now being registered as "new" content now perhaps?

Regardless, whatever is happening, it's misleading and confusing and makes it harder to keep track of things as well as wasting time!

Hmm that's peculiar. I also use Chrome on PC, tried those steps out, yet didn't encounter that error. Have you tried refreshing the browser or clearing cookies?

I find posts from some users bump the thread with "new" but there isn't any post actually there (not sure if I'm allowed to name names so I won't)

Also, "moved" threads get stuck with a perpetual "new" tag even if nothing new is commented

Hmmm... Actually, it might be to do with syncing?

Sometimes I read from home and sometimes from work. Chrome is synced to the same email and (as said) I do reload the page, but perhaps there is something that isn't carrying over.

@Brigby I _did_ clear cookies and browsing history last week and it never happened before that that I can remember.

I doubt I'll be able to deliberately test it exactly, but perhaps the page I leave open in one isn't marked read in the other? Not sure at all, just some possibilities!

I if I get anywhere concrete I'll let you know.

I feel like I've seen the latter scenario once or twice, but I haven't seen it recently. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for it.

Ahh I see. That's certainly possible. Oh, internet. Such a powerful tool, but it can sure act wonky sometimes!
