anyone else think that vaevictus the dire is going to cause even more problems?

i am not sure if people have considered what he will do in their decks and in the decks of greg fighting him, if they use vault it will fetch more for it but also kill their first creature or possibly take out the support it got last round, looks like this may be quite a card causing some problems like bugs and other fun stuff along with more headaches

From my point of view, this card will probably have the ability to make games even longer than they are already, without bringing much fun to the game. Not as poorly designed as paladia mors ... But definitely flavorless to me.

Don't know why you guys think that. Seems pretty clear to me what it's supposed to do and it is doing just that.

Also, not being obviouly OP and not being flavorful are not the same thing. This is an interesting card with a high payoff and also a high drawback. Which can be avoided.

You’d be nuts to play vaevictus. He helps the AI so much. It just rotates through putting awesome cards out for your opponent. I think it’s really supposed to be used with Bolas2 when his Ult is out.

That's why you play him with Raiders' Wake, or a discard-forcing attacker like Urgoros or Fell Flagship.

I never said he was useless ... But i can't see any flavor in facing a deck with it ... It will just provoke longer encounters because of endless summoning sickness. Longer, boring encounters are clearly not good for this game which already suffers from everlasting matchups when fast games would be much more adapted to the cellphone game format.
And i totally agree with grizzo on the fact that it would be a very bad addition in my own decks at least, creating chaos where i'm looking for board control.

I think (if he works properly) he could be pretty interesting in standard.  I would not play him in Legacy, ever.  Too many massive ETB creatures to worry about.  But in standard, I'm giving him a solid maybe.

Vaevictis works well in a discard deck when combined with a creature that discards on dealing damage that is on the field after Vaevictus or with Raider's Wake on the field. That way, whatever card that gets drawn is immediately shuffled off to the graveyard.

Without that, he seems too great a drawback.

Storm the Vault isn't a land until it flips and thus, nothing that fetches lands fetches Vault.

    I
already faced him. Interesting that we've come so far to automatically assume a card might be bugged! That says a lot about the state of the game.
It works as described, by the way.
While it was a bit annoying, it didn't deal a big threat to me. In the right setup, it might be better than I thought at first!

I mean, any card with funky mechanics is always viewed with skepticism, but Oktagon doesn't exactly have the best track record with these things

I've only seen it played a couple times.

So far I've killed it every time it has been played, out of dread of having to learn new wacky abilities.  Eventually I'll let it attack me...but not yet, need a bit more time ;)

I bought him out of curiosity and because I needed to Jewels to open this elite pack before it cycled out.

Playing him is like playing an Oktagon event for the first time. You know there’s things that are going to happen, but you aren’t sure exactly how they work. You brace yourself for the worst and hope for the best.

The difference is with Oktagon events you get used to it. With Vaevictis, you don’t.

I’ve played around 10 TG matches with him now, they haven’t been particularly long and I haven’t even come close to losing. He’s great for taking out supports and hexproof creatures.

Like a lot of what Oktagon gives us, he doesn’t look great on paper, but he’s solid in use. He will have a home in one of my dragon decks for sure.

not saying it is bugged, only that if a card has one this will show it in a support gem changer game. all those changing conditions and in rapid cascades will push any game. That said i tried him in my kiora deck using gem changers (including vault and vae as only creature) ended up against another with almost same deck but with steal, it was a long 45 minute game.

Like a lot of great csrds; you have to build around his weakness.
At least an option for objectives like 'kill x pr more creature'. Better option than waiting for.

Have him since last week and tested a little. Can be very annoying, if you loose your 'workaround', but else: great card.

He is bugged. At least when it came to the plant tokens created by Dousing Dagger. He can’t seem to destroy them.

Wait, so that old bug that became a new bug that was fixed that came back that was reported on M19 release day is now back on a paid-for exclusive card?  What?  Color me surprised [extreme sarcasm]

he does work well in bolas one but not a fast game, but i have it set up to flash them out and pull them from the graveyard

Since I had been going on and on about certain bugs in the bug forum and in tickets since M19 came along, I just couldn't ignore this. This might seem nitpicking, but it's not against you at all, but rather me foolishly trying to rage against "the machine".

Well, your post implies ("now back") that the M19-"destroy"-cards-can't-destroy-creatures-with-"prevent-damage" bug had been fixed and has then returned. The sad truth, however, is that the bug (affecting all "destroy" cards I've tried) has been here right from the start of M19 - and noone has ever bothered to do anything about it, which is why it is still reported as a new bug whenever someone acquires one of these marvelous (no, I'm not being sarcastic for a change!) "destroy" cards like Plague Wind, Transmogrifying Wand or Vaevictis and finds out to their utter delight that the card absolutely fails to do what it is supposed to in a specific situation.
The conclusion is the same and I think that sarcasm is becoming more and more _the_ way to look at what is happening with this poor little game.

Completely Off Topic: But hey, we have a nice little coalition event ahead of us that was designed in a cycling - Approach of the Second Sun - Imminent Doom meta. And it only requires us to play 45 matches, some of them on our working Monday. Hooray!
