MtGPQ Deck Strategy & Planeswalker Discussion
Remember Pia and Kiran Nalaar from the Origins block? Very efficient in terms of power, allows you to go wide, and has a very interesting ability to deal direct damage. Only problem was... there wasn't many supports you actually wanted to destroy to deal 5 damage. Now things have changed - a lot actually.
Creatures (3):
Pia and Kiran Nalaar
Lathliss, Dragon Queen
Djinn of Wishes
Spells (5):
Spell Swindle
Heartless Pillage
Depths of Desire
Contract Killing
Vona's Hunger
Supports (2):
Dragon Egg
Rupture Spire
The deck's goal is simple: be efficient, and blow up your own supports for massive gain! Pia and Kiran Nalaar allows you to do this directly through a single activated gem, but Rupture Spire can help should that gem get put into a rather... unreachable position. Lathliss benefits directly from Dragon Egg being played AND/OR destroyed - so get Lathliss out quickly! Djinn of Wishes is a massive power play for the deck: three 2 shield supports that don't reinforce and grants you card draw with full mana for drawn cards.
The spells are focused on control mainly, but also to generate fodder for sacrifice if needed! Spell Swindle is a classic: 10 mana to completely drain your opponent's first card and find all 4 treasures. Heartless Pillage is a great disruption card that also finds a treasure, while Depths of Desire can delay your opponent. Contract Killing is great for threat removal... or getting Djinn of Wishes into the graveyard for Bolas' third ability to resummon the wishes! Vona's Hunger is simply the anti-Gaea's Revenge card (or mass-removal if it gets to that point).
The Supports have to be willing to be blown up to have a home here. Dragon Egg fits the bill nicely, generates a 5/5 dragon when it is destroyed. Rupture Spire doesn't really wants to be blown up immediately... but it allows you to trigger Pia and Kiran's activated gem in a pinch AND work on triggering the wishes - and possibly trigger cascades.
If you feel the need to do so, you can put in Demolish or whatever form of anti-support card if you believe it's needed.
