ISO starved - suggestions?

Hey folks,
So after absorbing all the excellent advice from all of you, I reversed my newbie mistakes and have built up a decent 1* team. It is as follows:
IM35: 4/5/3 lvl. 35
M. Storm: 3/5/3 lv. 33
MBW: 2/4 lvl 23
Got Ares and Classic Cap with 2 covers each, but have not invested in them yet.
Problem is, with the PvE over I am quite stuck. I cannot get anywhere in PvP at all, couple of rounds and I am facing "red" opponents. PvE is complete, so that is not an option and the story mode is still tough as nails. Without healing boosts I am not really getting anywhere. I have no ISO to level my 1* team, and too early to level 2* team. Should I just wait for another PvE? Or....? I am guessing this is meant to be a difficult transition portion of the game where the devs want us to buy something, but was hoping to avoid that. Already spent some cash on expanding roster slots, which is mostly just a collection of dead weight

Wait for lightning rounds, hit up the start of every LR by pounding down seed teams, then roll in ISO. The end.0

Have you gotten all of the ISO prizes from the story mode nodes you can beat?0 -
If you have some extra slots get 2 level 1* characters and then just retreat 4 times using the loaned character + the 2 level 1s. This may lower your MMR some and while this isn't likely go get you a better placement, it will mean you'll have easier opponents in PvP so you can beat them up easier for iso 8 and covers. Also, you can combine this with regularly playing, as you can skip 3 times and then if you still haven't found any good matches send in your suicide team to retreat, and then you get 3 more skips and hopefully can find someone easy to beat.0

Based on a true story.0 -
What they said while I was being a slow typist.
Note that for lightning rounds, you may need to open up the event exactly when it starts to see the seed teams. Don't wait even a couple of minutes.0 -

Have you gotten all of the ISO prizes from the story mode nodes you can beat?
What I did when I was stuck at the low stages was beat a single node over and over again for 20 iso to level up my guys0 -
So the lightening rounds appear to be over, but from what I understand from you guys - I should just tank to lower MMR?
I was under the impression that tanking no longer works, at least not the way it was practiced for a long time? If tanking is still viable then I suppose I can.
To clarify, I can only win 3-4 matches in those rounds and then level 50+ come on in and wipe the floor w/me.0 -

You should just pound through story mode till you can be able to beat those lvl 50 guys that pop up. Otherwise you will keep finding yourself in the same situation0 -
I told you about Lightning Rounds on Tuesday. Should have listened, you would have more ISO today.

Toxic, you don't understand I did all the rounds like you requested, just got my **** handed to me!0

You need to join the lightning rounds right when it starts. You will get seed teams, which are weaker than your usual enemy.0
-
Trick ywhen everyone is doing exactly the same thing I suppose.0
-
You should get in at the very least 4-5 matches if you're slow on kill times, with higher level teams I've had as many as 12 to 13 matches go by before the seed teams stopped rolling in.0

agreed, agreed, agreed. If you try to get at least 100 points in each LR back to back, you can wind up with at least a few thousand ISO after they are all done.0 -
With what you say you have I don't think it's even possible to have fully completed the story (prologue) mode. After you beat a node in story you can continue to retry that node untill it no longer has prizes available. There are 4 prizes per node and it's only a percentage chance to win a prize from that nodes pool or 20 ISO.
Once you complete every node at least once in a section in story a new chapter opens.
H.A.M.M.E.R -- 11 missions to complete to unlock >>
Juggernaut -- 15 missions to complete to unlock >>
Venom -- 14 missions to complete to unlock >>
Oscorp -- 16 missions to complete to unlock >>
Dark avengers -- 15 missions to complete. (End of story)
258 total rewards from story including tokens, covers for both 1+2* characters, hp, boosts and ISO.
All very relevant and needed to make the step to 2*.
I'm on day 43. I started my transition only spending ISO on iron man untill he was 50. I got mbw, hawkeye and mstorm all to lvl 10. This allowed ironman to tank everything except aoe. Which is easily stoppable with the choice of my 1*s. I then leveled up mstorm to 50 once ironman was complete. Hawkeye and bw I never bothered lvling past 13 as their skills don't scale with levels. They do the same thing whether lvl 1 or 40. Being lvl 13 allowed them to never tank except on purple letting me use much less health packs.
I got im35 and storm to 50 all through prologue never touching the event tab so I know it is entirely possible.
Mstorm can literally change the way you play once you play her right. If I had known about her power earlier I could have saved a lot of frustration. On any jungle or desert map (when you click a node, the screen that first pops up will have a different background on each node. You will visually see whether it is a jungle or desert. It will remain that environment for the duration of the event on that particular node) she is devastating. If she is specced 5 green, 5 red, 3 black. Use only her red and green in alteration building ap and environment ap. having black widow in the team is even more fun as you can then steal more ap while continuing to cycle storms red and green untill you have enough ap to kill anyone left standing with ironman. Later she is even better in the 2* transition with Thor as he manipulates the board as well.
If you already FULLY completed the story mode then this is all basically irrelevant. In that case your only option is to pvp and do whatever Pve pops up as best as you can. When a node in pvp turns red it doesn't mean it is a harder enemy (although it usually is) it means that person attacked you and you have the chance to retaliate and attack them back. Because that person beat you, yes it is usually a harder opponent than you would normally choose to fight. You can always skip through untill you find a beatable team. You best friend at this point is timing. The start of pvp events have seed teams as have been said which are low lvl teams meant to fill the bracket untill others show. This will always allow at least a couple hundred ISO and a token at the very very least, and with recent changes you can also win 1+2* covers as well. Also Pve events when they first start are very easy for newer rosters to do very well in due to scaling. Everyone else will have to fight lvl 50/100/200+ enemies while you will get very low level enemies for the same points. You should make a bunch of ISO and a few tokens from the first sub alone if that's all you can do.
This is turning into more of a guide than I meant it to.. There are plenty of amazing guides here which have helped me immensely get to the point I am at. And at 43 days with an almost maxed 2* roster transitioning to 3* already I think I'm doing ok. Read through all the tips section especially polaritys guide. Good luck!0 -
THanks for that detailed response, so to clarify, I did not finish the story, I am on the second to last section of it. The problem I am having is that I am struggling with the story itself, and I was using the PvE and PvP to boost up my characters. Since I spent the first few days wasting my ISO, I fell a bit behind, but somewhat recovered. You got your IM35 to level 50, that is very very impressive - that seems really far away and thousands upon thousands of ISO. I also threw away M. Storm in the beginning thinking she was useless - so that set me back, but now I rely on her heavily.
My only other option now is to use boosts/heal packs to muscle through the story, but otherwise I am doing what everyone else is suggesting.
The whole timing thing for PvP events is difficult for me clearly.
Good tip on the red, I did not realize it was a retaliation circle! Heh, very cool.0 -
Just reread your post and realised I'm an idiot. You did say you are stuck in story, not that you don't know how to progress. In that case it's all about strategy.
The storm trick I previously stated will help immensely in those 2 environments. And even in others as it manipulates the board getting rid of countdown tiles, causing cascades and generating ap regardless of environment. It's just exceptionally useful in those 2 in particular.
Other that that though hawkeye and black widow are what will get you further. Hawkeye is amazing and I'm not sure why people down him all the time. He is incredible at controlling goons. His purple at lvl 5 is amazing for getting rid of special tiles, causing match 5s creating another crit or cascades or just giving you that extra 2 ap you need for a game changing move / denying the opponent the same. His red completely destroys a row. Never fear countdown tiles as long as you have the red needed for him. It can also cause matches if you study the field and can cause one.
Black widow is better against hero/villains . She steals ap denying them from using abilities and can stun if they ever do get to be a threat.
So basically with ironman/storm and either hawkeye or black widow depending on the match, you can effectively take down much higher lvl opponents than you could before as long as you play it correctly. They give you all the tools necessary.
And it's always possible to just replay the very trivial matches just for the 20 ISO to slowly lvl your ironman. Once he's 50 it will be a million times easier.0 -
Always go for the hero/villain first if it's one and 2 goons. Also don't use any abilities untill you absolutely have to. When there are only goons they do not move the board at all. It is always your turn. They just add countdown tiles. Knowing this you don't have to use storms green for example if their are no countdowns on the board and only goons enemies. Just make a match and gather more ap. keep gathering ap untill you can't destroy a countdown by just matching it or making a match 4 to destroy the row. That's when you check the tile and see what it does. Some you can let go off if it's not going to hurt you much. Others you will have to use abilities to either destroy the tile or kill whoever laid it. (When you click it you will see who set it in the description) once they are dead the tile is changed back to normal. Since you were saving your ap for this it becomes very very easy.0

Thanks again for the suggestions, knowing that red was revenge does help a lot. I am a bit more successful in using skip.
Hawkeye is definitely confusing to me, I obviously have not upgraded him one bit because of all the experts telling me he sucks. However when I caught the tail end of the oscorp: heroic he was immensely helpful! His crit landing in between 4 colors was absolutely devastating. I suppose I can just keep him at level 1 ad be doe with it.0
