Alternate Artwork

How much would you be interested in alternate customizable art for your planeswalkers or some of your cards?  Say either it's a purchasable feature, a reward for reaching platinum, an event achievement, etc.

Think about it like the customizable skins in other video games, wouldn't change any of their abilities or functions.  But some of the cards are just flat out ugly (I'm looking at you, Bolas).  There's much better artwork out there that could be utilized.

Note: Obviously this wouldn't take priority over important issues like bug fixes and stuff, but could still be a pretty cool addition at some point :)

I think this was hinted at once upon a time as “Planeswalker customization”, although I suppose (and hope) this could me tweaking Planeswalker abilities too.

Don't remember anything about alt art, but they did confirm they'd be rebalancing PWs, starting with the older ones, "when they get around to it."

I wouldn't care at all, honestly.
Apart from garruk. I'd pay to have.. Well, any other picture for him.

(Disclaimer: This is not an official announcement. I simply enjoy coming up with ideas on occasion, and this is one of my personal ones I'd like to share)

In tabletop Magic: the Gathering, I'm definitely a fan of collecting full-art cards and foil cards. I'd love to be able to see some sort of implementation of that in the game.

Perhaps an idea could be that once you master a card, you unlock the ability to purchase (maybe for a small Mana Crystal cost) the full-art / foil version of its artwork?

That would be awesome!  And give you an incentive to master stuff once you hit Platinum (or give a reason to keep mastery if the tier system is changed)

I'd prefer to see the purchase cost be runes, since there is an infinite capacity for farming those. If people want to work for all of those extra runes in their own free time, then by all means, let them. But it might also add a bit more incentive to purchasing the exorbitantly-priced bundles that we see in the vault all the time. Heck, you could even toss in a legitimately exclusive alternate artwork for exclusives, which you can only obtain through purchasing that card.

Charging crystals is the wrong route to take for this. It could very easily be detrimental to newer players who don't have a full grasp of just how important crystals are. Furthermore, given the fact that you can buy crystals for actual money, this idea sounds a bit like lining up the inexperienced for a good fleecing. No offense of course; I just have a difficult time endorsing something that could lead the uneducated or inexperienced to frivolous spending. Those new players are what's going to keep this game going for the long-haul. Taking advantage of them isn't healthy.

If I had my druthers though, I'd say there should be some sort of achievement system that locks up rewards like this. Win a "foil" skin for mastering all cards from a particular block, applicable to any card of your choice from that block. Win a mythic skin for getting a perfect score in an event and using the same card in every deck you played in that event. Have each section of Story Mode reward some kind of skin, full art, or promo art, for earning 100% completion. Objectives like this would keep sooooooo many more people interested and actively playing the game, even on those Sundays (like this most recent one, in fact) where there are no other events to play.

Idk, it just seems to me that if you give people more than one or two reasons at a time to play this game rather than trick them into spending money on it, then they're more likely to freely and willingly spend their money on it.
