Could someone just explain my Season 1 ranking please?

Not a moan, just baffled.

I hit the Hero pack point level over a week ago, have around 7k points overall. I have been 50-100 on each of the sub events. Yesterday I pushed in the Loki event and went from 175 to finish at 52.

My Season 1 ranking? Went up 8 places to 154 icon_e_confused.gif

I win a game on Shield Training and I go up literally one position on my Season ranking. I lose a game I drop 10.

I have put effort in, for each event. Hours of effort. Now I know others have as well, this isn't a stomping feet post. I just have, in my head, that my Season ranking should be higher. And when I go up over 100 places in a sub event, I should go up more than eight places in the season ranking. And when I finish sub 100 in each minor event, why am I sat in the 150-200 bracket on the Season? I seem to be putting effort in, and getting basically nothing back in terms of place advancement.

I am clearly missing something here, but cannot for the life of me work it out. Others in my alliance seem to have placed lower in events, not bothered with Shield training at all, yet overall are 20-30 in the rankings.

Have I just got unlucky?

The season bracket is significantly larger than the event brackets

(and you're probably in one of the easy MMR event brackets, not the death ones where 1k points is not enough for the top 10)
  • I am just a bit baffled that I can be sub 100 in all the events, yet over 150 overall. And going up 100 paces in a sub results in little change overall. May as well give up now as it doesn't look like I can change my Season ranking even if I top the last sub. Bit disheartening.

MMR bracket is not easy either, got most of my Loki points from Defending in the end icon_e_biggrin.gif

But yeah, there are 11 events, plus shield training (which is worth about 2 events worth of points right now) a change of 100 points is really rather insignificant in the big picture
  • It's not points though, it's places. So i have over-taken 130+ people and yet only gone up 8 places overall.

    I'm clearly missing something here, aren't I? icon_e_biggrin.gif

Unless those 130+ people were all in your season 1 overall bracket, you didn't gain any points on them. In fact they may have made more points in that particular PVP than you have.
That's why you shouldn't look at individual placements but for a points goal for each PVP.
I aim for 1100+ each tourney, whether that gets me top 5 or top 100 is of not much importance overall.
  • Ah ok. Get it now. Guess with the recent changes etc it has just meant I will be much lower. Even with skipping loads the ranking it gives me means that 600-700 is about the max for these events for me. After that I just get smashed.

Just another reason to play play less I guess.

The recent changes are helping you. It's letting you score your 600-700 and still rank well. I'm just a thor/obw player, but in the brackets I've gotten stuck in, 600-700 would place you around 150-200, which is pretty much where you are on your season rank.
  • But before the changes (I have been playing for three months now) I was getting 600-700 points and finishing in the top 20-30 most of the time? Falcon event 700 got me 90, Loki event 700 got me 52.

That's because people like me were getting hosed (for months) and getting stuck in MMR bubbles in the 500-700 range. The only ones that could break free of that bubble, were the guys that would shield hop or tanked their rating in LR's.

Now they opened the MMR up and I, and others like me, are able to attack more people allowing us to move into the 900-1100 range.
  • Ah ok, so helps some out and doesn't others. Guess it's your turn icon_e_biggrin.gif

I'm taking a step back after this Season anyway. Sounds like a fair few are. Becoming too much of a chore. At least i can see the reason for it though. Sort of.

Mathematically speaking, if you're top 100 in all the events, it probably means that you're in the top 20% percentile of a bracket of 500 whereas in the season bracket consisting of 5000 people, top 20% means anywhere up to 1000th place.

This. Beat me to it. Easier to place higher in brackets with fewer hardcores. 5,000 person brackets are going to have many more of the 1100+ regular PvP guys in there.

Think big fish, small pond and vice-versa.
  • Yeah, just results in me being way less bothered as even making an effort for each sub event I get less reward than I did beforehand. No biggie, others benefit and will carry on playing, the world keeps turning.
