Seriously. I spent the entire event in the top 5 without having to pour in, like, 10 hours a day. It was a grind, but it didn't eat up half my day or anything.
Now suddeny on the last couple of hours I'm ranked 38. There's something like 2000 points seperating me and the number 1 guy and every fight is worth about 60 points. I have no chance of getting close, especially since the only node worth a damn has level 235 enemies on it. A level 235 Ares. Thanks for that, btw.
So how did this event go from a casual grind for an hour or so to completely insane in just a day and a half?

Yeah, I noticed that the PvE point system goes totally crazy that last hour. I guess people were supposed to play a little every now and then, during the whole event, but it seems most players just wait and then play intensively the last hour. They waited for the refresh and can rake in huge points in that last period. I don't like that. The refresh system works badly.0

Went to bed with one hour to go and I was 40th.
Woke up and I'm 89th. Awesome finale, guys.0 -
Basically PvE events are all about timing. If you are haphazardly playing periodically throughout the day, you are not efficiently earning points and will probably get passed at the end.
In the final 80 minutes I went from 211th place to 9th place.0 -
We had 12+12+6 hours in the main, those planning the refreshes played at 1, 15 and 28 hours in the event (approximately). Having full points 2 hours before end and looking at fine 4k potential, 2k easy to get.
That is the exact time point you mention running out of juice.0 -
Isn't it weird that you have to organise when you play for maximum efficiency?
I suppose it's either that or keeping score static so you need to grind all day, but....I dunno feels wonky.0 -
I know the mathematicians around here would hate not knowing but I can't help but think it would be more fair to have a variable node refresh time. Not knowing would make the last hour of an event that much more sane, even the field between those who 'know the system' and win every time and those who enjoy the game and play as best they can. Maybe while adding in a random timing element give us a graphical indication of if a node is 'charged' or not0

That said, if the OP has been around since January, and hasn't learned about point refreshes and rubberbanding, then there are several threads in the tips section that you need to read.0 -

I know they exist, and I know roughly what they do.
Guess it was my own stupid mistake for playing at 2pm, then again at 5pm when my health packs returned (run of insanely bad luck) and then picking it up again at 2am to 4am. I went in at 2am to see the best node was the level 230 guys and it was worth about 400.
By the end every time I won a node, I was basically running in place.0 -
That last hour IS truly insane. The points can DOUBLE during that single hour, so if you are ranked 1 when you go to bed, you can still fall a very long way in the rankings if you can't play that last hour.
Something definitely needs to be done about that. I would appreciate the old system, where every mission had it's set difficulty, and for each time you play and win, the difficulty should rise by a set amount. Also, I think the difficulty should fall if you fail, but only to a certain degree so that you can't keep flinging "reserve characters" on that mission to lower it's difficulty too much.
Then we all come back to that very simple truth that we had in the beginning: Beginners neither can't nor shouldn't expect to be able to complete all missions, and they must realize that they actually have to WORK and ADVANCE in the game to be able to complete all missions. When they are stronger, they will succeed, and they will get a sense of fulfillment. Now, they expect to complete all missions and they do, while the high-level players instead are presented with horribly high enemy levels that often just can't be overcome.0
