A 2 day HoD with different featured pw would be the best

HoD in the dominaria standard is one of the best events:
Nice variety of decks
No permanent supports that slow down the game
3 nodes
Almost fair secondaries.

And now the bad parts:
Three days are just too much.
The featured pw is always Bolas.

If it lasted 2 days and the featured pw changed every time, hod would be the perfect event that I would be happy to play every weekend

It won't ever change though. The Hour of Devastation is all about Bolas and his success.

Note - This was a poor way to implement this event in the first place and it could have been done much better by following the storyline better.

I don’t want to see HoD carry on past Bolas — as Brakkis noted, it’s important for the story and these events are designed to follow the story (another example is the rollout of Inventor’s Fair culminating in Tezz2). I actually think this is something Hibernum didn’t get credit for, so I’m glad it was pointed out.

I don’t really understand why we don’t have a DOM equivalent event, tbh. I think Oktagon had a great opportunity to fix a lot of things that were not good in past runnings and make the new set shine. (One example would be to allow users to play with the featured PW before it is available for crystal purchase.)

While I agree that the event is amazing to play with and against in new standard - I’m way outside of my comfort zone and doing well with both my main and my alt which is running pauper in Platinum - until they can find a way to level the playing field so that forced purchases are not required, I will continue to not approve of the running for these kinds of events.

    Care to elaborate on that?

Simple, the actual Hour of Devastation story over on Magic's site detailed how Bolas fought and individually decimated each of the Gatewatch.

The event should have been a 5 Node PvE event. Each node should have been against a different Bolas deck and you should have had to play one of the 5 Gatewatch Planeswalkers. Any version of them of course, but for instance:

    White Node - Gideon 1, 2, or 3
    Green Node - Nissa 1, 2, or 3
    Red Node - Chandra 1 or 2
    Black Node - Lilianna 1, 2, or 3
    Blue Node - Jace 1 or 2

Each node would feature Bolas with different loyalty abilities and different cards. They wouldn't even have to match his colors as we've seen other PvE nodes use cards not of their color. Rather than how the story went with him demolishing them with ease, in the course of the event within the game you could overcome him in each node with each of the Gatewatch PW's.

That way the event would have much more closely resembled the story rather than forcing people to purchase Bolas and being a generic 3 node PvP event that had little resemblance to the actual events of the Hour of Devastation.

You know, Oktagon hasn't made any basic events yet. Across Ixalan is the only one without any permanent supports. If they got out of that mindset, they could easily copy the structure of some old events and just tweak them a bit to make Dominaria events.

We are 2 sets after hour of devastation. My post is about an event which is nice to play and could be even better if it were a little shorter and had more variety in the featured planeswalker.
Now, if you want to change something almost good for a 5 node grind or an event on which you are forced to use the same planeswalker every time, be my guest.
I'm only trying to tell when I'm enjoying something and what I enjoy is similar to hod with a more variety (changing the secondaries would be nice, but I didn't want to ask too much) and a little shorter (just not to overstay is welcome)

Actually, there was an Hour of Devastation event set up for Elspeth and Samut as well (I believe).

Bolas just happened to be the last one that Hibernium had run.  Once again (and boy do I feel like a broken record saying this) this is an example of Oktagon not wanting (or being able to) change the existing stuff that was already in the game when Hibernium closed.  They haven't changed the login pack rewards (despite those traditionally changing with every set released), they haven't changed the Trial of the Planes pack rewards (despite those traditionally containing the newest set), and now they won't change the featured planeswalker in Hour of Devastation.  Same problem.

They did change the 21 days superpack, so it feels like they don't want to change the rest or don't care for it.

But we do! Standard packs pls.

I would say "Haven't gotten up to" rather than any of the other things. They fixed the biggest original complaint and they keep having to play whack-a-mole with big complaints, they haven't had a chance to catch their breath and go back and clean up the smaller things.

[MOD MIC ON] Please stick to the topic. There is another thread to discuss daily rewards. Future off topic comments will result in warnings — thank you [//MOD MIC OFF]

I'm fine with 3 days . Prizes are solid , and with 2 days , there would be more 'what are we supposed to do on suuuuuunday' and things are already a bit sparse . Since it looks like we're stuck cycling through old , beat to death , events . I'd like if we cycled through the various iterations of hod and tos, since they're effectively the same event. I like hod, but it turns into a bit of a slog when 2/3 of your matches are against bolas decks that are 2/3 removal. It can be a bit mind numbing at times. These are minor gripes ,because I'll take absolutely anything over rotgp . I don't ever want to play that event again. Ever ever .

My ideal schedule would be like this:
    Coalition events:
2-day hod like on the weekend to cover Saturday and Sunday (3 standard 1 legacy per month)
2-day awr like midweek to cover Wednesday abd Thursday (3 standard 1 legacy per month)

    Non coalition pvp:
2-day terrors like to cover monday and tuesday (2 standard and 2 legacy)

    Non coalition pve:
Monday to Thursday: every day starts a different chapter of a journey through history
Friday to Sunday: OotG 1 and 2, RatC, and FS (2 on sunday)

    ToTP and AI as usual

    Contents everyday!
2 coalition events per week and the midweek one is lighter.
All the rest is something that allows for grind but it's not mandatory for coalitions.
    You're welcome

I'd just vote to bring back Planeswalker Arena.

I'd like to see a new twist on it.

    ***Idea:
As Amonkhet/HoD is basically the roundabout storyline of Bolas complimenting himself on how awesome he is, tricking all the people and getting a free army of blueberry-skeletons in the process; should we replicate the intensity of the Gatewatch's demise at the hands of Bolas...or attempt to turn things around for greater rewards?

    Rules:

    1) All 3 nodes are open to *specific* planeswalkers only.  Your choices are either Bolas or one of the 5 Origins Walkers.

Totally not fair right?  I mean...Bolas is going to roflstomp those walkers, just like he did in the storyline.

To be fair...you're probably right.  An Origins walker would be at a huge disadvantage to Bolas, unless you built a super good deck and had a bit of luck on your site.  Which brings us to the 2nd rule.

    2) If you choose Bolas, there are no secondary objectives.  You can only get completion (+5).  Origins walkers (if they win) would get an additional point (+6), plus have 2 (reasonable) objectives to rack in extra points.

So if you just want to coast through on an easy playthrough (or fly on dragon's wings) you just pick Bolas and get your easy wins.

But if you want to be the very best that no-one ever was (or don't have Bolas), the more challenging road to greater rewards is still available for you.  Plus you get to feel the intensity that the planeswalkers probably felt when they faced Bolas in the fall of Amonkhet!!

Maybe in a non-coalition event, but I'm happy you don't design events ;-)

I just want a return to the Original Terrors for every block.

3 nodes, with each node rotating between 2 colors
1 Tribal objective, split between the main tribes of that node's color pair (Cast X or more Spirits/Zombies for BW, Vampires/Horrors for UB...ect)
1 Mechanical objective (Cast X or more cards with Madness, Transform, whatever)

No enraged, though, unless it fits with the set.  Maybe put in supercharged or other things depending on the set themes.

Nice and simple, and fun and challenging.

HOD is currently the best event in standard (3 nodes, good secondary objectives...). Personally I do not like featured PW because it forces you to spend precious crystals with unwanted PW.

But HOD has a featured walker (although I don't think he's "unwanted" for anyone.

And I like the idea sometimes.  Just maybe not for coalition events.

Maybe the top node should be a choice between the required PW and Nissa1. Everyone has her.
