Question about PvE/prologue from a newbie

Hey folks,

Just started a week ago and read a few of the guides. Working on building out my 1*, however I am in a bit of a bind. I am stuck in the prologue, because I am getting my **** kicked, and I am stuck in PvE - well largely for the same reason. I expanded a few roster slots to get some more space and looking to collect a handful of 2* covers from the PvE events - however nothing drops, ever. A meager ISO pack here and there, but no actual covers. I have replayed all the prologue missions that do drop covers and collected them all, but that is it...

now what?

Seems like a weird spot to be and I am not spending over 25 bucks just to get a random pack of 10.

Any advice? thanks!

  • What levels are your 1 star characters? You should be working towards maxing them out to get you past the prologue levels. Use boosts when needed and use Modern Widow's stun to neutralize tougher opponents.

Too many times I see new players waste their ISO winnings on buying cover packs, when they should have been using it to level up Widow, Storm or IM35.

Also, you should be using lightning rounds to farm up ISO/tokens. When they first start, you are able to fight 'seed' teams. Very easy teams that will help you rack up progression prizes and more ISO (also a small chance of winning more covers). These pop off every 2 hours for a few days. You can really improve your team through attacking them.
  • Work on fully maxing (getting 13/13 or 10/10 covers and maxing out the levels to 50 / 40) your 1* team, don't skip that stage. They'll stay with you for a while while you work on collecting covers and gathering iso to level your 2* team. Especially modern Storm stays useful even much later in the game. You should obviously keep whichever 2* covers you get, but they shouldn't really be your main focus while you don't have a workable 1* team. On which combinations are useful, check out polarity's guide if you haven't yet (viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3939).

You should do everything in the prologue, many nodes have at least one token as reward, those will help you get the covers necessary to max out your 1* team, along with the iso to level them. You can obviously try for the current featured event, but don't expect too much. Try it, play how much you can, I got some really good swag from my first PvE when I was just a few days into the game. Just don't expect to place high and don't be discouraged if some fights are simply too hard for you. The other thing you can is to play PvP. They recently changed the rewards to give out various 1* and 2* covers along with iso - those look to be a great source of covers. Don't expect a placement, but you should get some nice stuff simply from playing the fights. Same goes for the S.H.I.E.L.D simulator. In addition that one has tons of 1* covers as progression rewards.

    Hey guys,

Thank you for the quick replies, much appreciated.

So I definitely screwed up my first few days. Did not really understand what to value, burned around 2000 ISO on getting covers and then proceeded to waste those covers thinking M. Storm was useless. Oooooops. Spent 5 bucks and got 600 HP, but spent half of that on cover. I think it is very intriguing and appealing.

Now that I have read the guides, I recalibrated.

    I have the following:

    1*
    IM35 lv 26 2/5/1
    Jugs lv 16 4/1
    M. Black Widow 10 2/2
    M. Storm lvl 6 1/2 (threw her away in the beginning, ouch)
Classic Hawkeye lv 1 2/1 (just keeping him around)

    2*

All of these are lvl 6

    Ares 1
    OBW 1
    Daken 1
    Magneto 1

    3*

    Black Widow (grey)

I can't really tell the difference between PvE and PvP, but I am guessing the PvE are the missions with buffed characters, etc. In those I can do OK, but generally their rewards are 2* covers and, again, I never get them - nor should I be interested in them anyway according to what you guys said. My main problem is that I am suck in the Prologue and cannot advance. I have redone many of the missions that give multiple awards.

Did I just screw myself by squandering my early ISO on covers and throwing away M. Storm?
  • Nah you can get this back. As others have said, play Lightning rounds etc to get iso rewards, and the Shield training etc also gives out covers now. it'll take a bit longer than normal, but you can totally turn this around.

    Alrite, sounds good.

So if I may, two more obviously newbie questions:

    1) Shield events are PvE not PvP? I see that I am playing against other people? The shield events are confusing to me, because these appear to offer 2* covers, but never actually drop them. Am I playing them strictly for the progression award?
    2) What are the lightening rounds? How can I anticipate them and how often do they occur?

    thanks for your help!
  • PvP means Player vs. Player and in this game it's the tourneys that feature a specific character, like in this case Loki in God of Lies - you don't have to have this character yourself, a low-level version is provided. The other PvP are lightning rounds, which is essentially similar to the tourneys, except they last 2 hours instead of 3 days. Lastly, there's S.H.I.E.L.D. which is an ongoing PvP event where you can't win placement prices, just progression rewards.
PvP matches have two options for rewards: iso or a random 1* or 2* cover. The 2* are much rarer, you shouldn't rely on getting them there, but you can get your misplaced storm covers back if you play enough icon_e_wink.gif
Lightning rounds happen weekly, Wednesday and Thursday I think? Idk, I never liked them and hardly ever play in them. It just two hours of intense PvP tourney, then half an hour break, then the next one with a different featured character.

The reason they're recommended as easy iso farm, is, the first matches after it opens are usually trivial and they can get you a couple hundred iso and some progression reward + the final placement reward with very little effort, every couple hours for those two days.

PvE is player vs. environment - the prologue is PvE and any event that functions similarly, with repeatable nodes on a map, is also. Current PvE event is Heroic Oscorp, which is a beefed up and expanded version of the Prologue Oscorp chapter. I keep calling it the prologue, but it's actually called the Story now, sorry about that.

You participate in an event as soon as you win a match in that event.

Got it!! That was very clear and concise, thank you.

I will continue grinding the left over missions to get my last recruitment cards and back to SHIELD / Loki. My main concern and one that I stated earlier is that in both Loki and SHIELD I am pretty much stuck. My roster as you can see is weak, so after getting through the ez stuff I am just losing most of my health for the sake of 70 iso.

The 70 ISO isn't nothing but the real rewards in pvp are the progression and placement awards. These are based on your max earned score for progression and your score when the event ends relative to the others in your 500 person bracket. Placement rewards are the primary source of three star covers which you are still quite a way from but it's good information to have.

In each pvp tournament try to push to as high a score as you can even just hitting 50 points witll give you a token and 500 ISO from progression rewards. In the lightning rounds if you can push up to 100 points you'll end up with a similar haul of rewards. These will quickly level your one stars up and make progressing in the prologue much easier.

    Understood, thank you very much.
