The artwork feature, and how it could be improved

First of all, getting to enjoy the gorgeous artful even closer up is a win for the game, love it!

Secondly: Why don't you have the flavour text appear below the artwork when zoomed in? Seems like the perfect place for it!

Thirdly: Can we please have this feature disabled while in a match? It is very annoying when it randomly pops up because you missclick, and whilst it can be something to do when you are bored in a game, I assume most people should be focused on fighting out the match, rather than looking at the artwork :)

So my suggestion is for the full artwork to only be available when you are in the card gallery, which is the perfect place to focus on enjoying the artwork, rather than the middle of a fight.

Some mtgpq cards also don't feature the full artwork, usually being more zoomed in, which on some artwork is neccesary with the reduced space available compared to the paper cards. Sandwurm convergence is an example of the original artwork being cropped for the app.

Could the zoomed in artwork maybe feature the full original artwork?

What do you guys think?

I agree great feature.. flavor text would be cool as would the original art idea.

Currently, the feature is very annoying. I actually tap my screen alot in the picture part of the card, especially the middle area to make animations go faster at times, i.e. card draw or token stacking. Other times while browsing my card gallery or when i am building my deck, I click to see the card and click the picture area to zoom back out to my card list.. but now i have to click with more accuracy some other part of the card, which could present problems from icons such as trample/vigilance/etc in addition to sometimes cards have unlerlined text.. its frustrating when I am going through the event deckbuilder, tap a card to read the text then attempt to go back to my card list only to have tapped the image zoom, then when i am out of the image zoom i tap the text but end up tapping the some underlined text so i have to manuever with accuracy around the hint box explaining the underlined words meanwhile not tapping the image... life has become kinda hard. Hope the explanation helps the devs understand their next course of action.

My suggestion is to create a zoom icon somewhere on the card for people who want to see the art, whether in battle or outside.

I agree on disabling the feature during matches, but I don't find it unbearable. However, it would be nice to give credits to the illustrators too.

I love the feature, but not in combat.  That said, the graphics in this update for the app are gorgeous! Loving the start up and various other screens.  Appeals to the eye and a nice change from the graphic mood that had been on place since AHK. The lighter scenes of landscapes and bright skies is a breath of fresh air. Pun intended.

Can I request that the zooming in of artwork only activates on a long press instead of a tap? That way we can still tap on the image to close the card but can long press on it when we want to zoom in on the art. About the only situation I can think of offhand where it would lose the zoom-in functionality is when a card is drawn or cast during a match, which I highly doubt is a popular time for players to want to zoom in on the card art.
^^^ this.  would remove the accidental zoom which is currently a frequent problem. @Brigby

I think the artists name should be on the full art zoom.

If not a long tap, perhaps a magnifying glass icon you have to tap to see the full artwork? +1 on the artists name as well.

    A magnifying glass would work...

I love this feature too and there _are_ times you want to zoom an opponents card in a match, it's not for everyone, but the desire exists.

I was personally thinking make it work on the top corners only, not the middle of the art, but a translucent Magnifying glass in the top right corner would do it.

Erm... zooming the artwork doesn't bring into focus any more detail than what we can already see, does it?

I was excited when they announced the feature in the pre-release notes because full art of the paper cards isn't brought into this game and some of the flavour is lost. But the using the zoom feature still doesn't show you the full art, which makes it not as exciting.

Also, the cards released by hibernum i.e. ORI to HOU, actually do reveal a bit more detail when zoomed. But it appears that octagon decided to use card art that was more cropped.

Having lost a match in the AWR event to a frozen game because of this feature - remove it from matches.

Want the card art? Go to the Cards gallery and view it there.

If I want to zoom in on the art slightly, I'll move my face slightly closer to the screen.

I agree with the not having it on during matches as I sometimes have done that and always think will I have it for the rest of the match in the middle of the screen.

+1 on getting the flavor text and artist's name when zoomed in. And yeah I think either making it a long press or disabling it during matches would be helpful, though I don't think accidentally hitting it will be as much as a problem once we have some time to get used to it.

Please get rid of it during matches. I ACCIDENTALLY enlarged one of the card's art and the game froze. Thanks a lot.

PS: I like to see the art up close, but save that for outside combat.

Edit: a more general failure? I can't access the game anymore.
Edit2: @Brigby: more of my teammates have the same issue. The game can't be accessed anymore. Those in a match lost their points (like me).

This works. But if i have one recommendation to it, please not in the top right corner near the card type (creature, spell, support) as this is a high tap region, usually inadvertently, for right handed people. The reason being the card art, the area above the card art (middle of screen area below where there used to be 2x mana or "enraged" 2x damage bonus), and sometimes a little more to the right if the opponent AI doesnt have any creatures are safe spots to tap mindlessly to make the animations go faster.

Perhaps it can be outside of the card area as a whole and placed like the "card finder" button when viewing a specific card. In other words the lower right hand or left hand corners. Of course the icon shouldnt be a magnifying glass then as it could cause confusion with the "card finder" button. So perhaps a landscape looking icon like the ones on a windows computer or sometimes on andriod phones to denote "picture".

It's a very good point that the "magnifying glass" or whatever can be next to the card instead of on it. It's not a physical thing.

So, you know when you zoom in on card art... there's enough room to write the card text underneath it, isn't there? So, why not just make the cards that big and not bother with the zoom?
    Giant placards ftw.
