Not maxing characters

Is it worth paying attention to individual characters strength in relationship to each other?

For example
I have a max patch and his yellow is strength 51. At level 100 Spider-Man and hood have a strength 51 yellow.
Is it recommended to stop leveling there and just be conscience about their placement at beginning a of battles. Or just push them and not worry about that? Thanks

  • That's some next level stuff. There are plenty of cases for a specific team if you want to hold back on leveling. For example....if you want spidey to use his blue but not get hit you have to find someone to tank blue for him. keeping him several levels under c. mags would do the trick. Same with Patches and the Hulk on Green. however, in most cases though I just say max the level as holding back is only useful in certain situations. Lots of cases but not always warranted.
  • The Hood is the most interesting dilemma in the game. He doesn't really gain much benefit in offense power from levels 100-141, but those extra added HP's can be a (theoretical) help on defense. Those few extra turns of Hood's blue sapping ability could mean the difference between a loss or a win. For some, seeing a level 141 Hood (with a couple high HP damage dealers) is an auto-skip.

But when you raise him to such a level, you are insuring that he will take more damage on offense (meaning more health packs used).

With the stealth changes to PVP/PVE bracketing (read: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=7098) I might suggest that leaving those two where they are (neither gains much other than health via levels) is preferred. At least wait out the spading on what the changes were to see if we are able to confirm roster strength/iso spent is a factor in bracketing would be a smart move.

I think it's worth paying attention to. Your example is exactly the reason I've left my Spider-Man at lvl 100. My Patch is lvl 141, so leaving spidey at lvl 100 means my patch still covers yellow, which is another color for his TBTI.
  • Lazyshield is my only 141. For a week or so I kept him at 115 so OBW would still steal blue with Espionage. I ultimately caved and took him all the way up, but having that blue steal, especially against opposing OBW was reeeeally nice. But at 141 Cap's red takes out her in one hit (it probably does it earlier too), 2* Wolvie in one hit plus a match, Storm in one...

I do sometimes see teams that position wrong. Just played against a team in SHIELD training that I think was 3x85, OBW/Storm/MNMags. They were in the wrong order so OBW didn't steal on blue. Which made that game a lot smoother.
  • Thanks for the thoughts. I just leveled hood and spidey to 100.

I think I will take a different approach to leveling than most of the tip guides suggest.
With new characters coming out every week I will never max them all out. For me a well rounded roster is more important than 4 141 characters. And down the road maybe I will level certain ones up. The utility players don't really need to be stronger, healtha are ao big in many fights that only the patches and cmags really hit the kill switch, and I have taken to putting in a defensive team.

Any thoughts on the scariest defensive trio? Hood + hulk + obw?

    L. Thor. Being well rounded is nice and all, but having a dependable 141 or two to form the backbone of your team. when you only get 3x141s. really does help
  • Obw can give you the occasional surprise defensive win, but she's more inviting than scary. The hulk is more annoying than scary but can be an effective deterrent nonetheless. The Hood, LT, BP will all male some people think twice before attacking. I find that people don't like attacking the punisher, but YMMV.

hood/LT/Mag or LT/BP/mag will give you a lot of skips and the occasionnal defensive wins.. but as long as spidey isnt nerfed, you can field all the scariest teams you want, you will only be a cannon fodder if you represent +20 pts in pvp..

Im going to go with lt/bp/hood as the scariest trio. The team forces you to take out hood first, which means that bp probably gets all the black to rage of the lanther since hood goes down before he gets off intimidation. Two bruisers + an ap stealer = high risk.
  • At a much lower level to you guys, but I got Storm to level 85 along with some other 2* characters and now she basically takes 75% of the attacks now. Meaning she dies. A lot. Which saddens me.

    My fault I guess.

My experience has been that 90-100 3* character generally has lower strength (match damage) than an 85 2*. I think if the goal is to have someone tanking for the 3* then dont level up. I have 4 characters sitting at lvls 90-99 (Pun/CMags/Hulk/GSBW). I have not faced 230s in PVE in a long while. I am not sure if I send someone over 100 if I will pop some bubble that increases my PVE difficulty. So for now, I am just trying to get everyone worthwhile to at least 85 and so-so people upto like 60.

I agree with some others here that a 141 is scarier than 2 100s. Thats true for PVP. Since OP also said he had a maxed Patch, that would definately be skip worthy.

Nah, that's a very annoying trio, but not particularly scary.

For a very scary defensive team, take LThor, and couple him with any two of the following: Hood, CMags, BP, Hulk, forthcoming UDaken.

MN Mags has blue as his strongest colour, so he would take it over oBW regardless.

Another vote for checking color strengths before leveling, especially with regard to Patch's TBTI ability!

As an example, in the ongoing Heroic Oscorp event, I've kept IM40 at Lvl 117 so that he stays behind the ever regenerating Patch on Yellow matches. This is good since it powers the Recharge ability without exposing IM40, allowing quicker TBTI (and higher powered due to self-stun), Berserker Rages, and even an occasional Ballistic Salvo to nail the whole enemy team
  • A long, long time ago, one of the strong motivations I had for leveling IM 40 was getting his blue to a point where he could tank for Classic Storm.

Honestly, CStorm still gives me fits; when she's boosted enough to be a desirable team member (like the last Hunt event) she does so much match damage that she's almost always in front. It's irksome.

I need to max my MMN so that he takes blue over cStorm at least... And his red would give more damage as well.
