Is anyone else curious as to what "bug" this combo is and why it's being investigated?  Investigated for what?  It's a known, very strong combo.

The fact they are looking at it is probably to do with its power.

It's being investigated due to the concern of infinite looping. I wanted to pass it along to the team for due diligence, even if that turns out not to be the case.

There’s probably many ways to create an infinite loop in the game, and some not-quite infinite combos that are very useful in the proper circumstances.
For instance, I like the combo of Omni, Panharmonicon, Whir of Invention, and Exquisite Firecraft for specific Story-Mode objectives, such as “win with 5 or less life”.
But this combo is dangerously close to a runaway loop, if you miss adding Firecraft (or any other spell in your deck) it can go on forever.
Maybe if a mechanism was added to the game to analyze the flow of play, automatically halt a loop if there’s no user interaction or damage caused within a reasonable amount of steps.
Would need to track both sides of the match.  I’ve run into some non-Omni loopers that seemed like they could go on forever: Baral, Part the Waterveil, Coastal Discovery, Seasons Past, etc.
Fortunately most of the worst offenders are relegated to Legacy these days.

I just thought of a possible way to prevent almost all the looping (Path to Discovery+ Zendikar's Roil would be nerfed but still possibly infinite, but they need to fix Roil giving twice as many tokens as it should anyway). Limit the number of cards either player can cast in a turn to forty. That's still a huge turn, casting an entire deck's worth of cards, but looping would be prevented. Match-5's could reset it to forty again, if someone's figured out how to consistently produce match-5's they deserve it, and a low cost draw deck can go through a lot of cards if you're hitting match-5's even without any of the looping strategies.

Interesting start of an idea, would need to be tested and played around with a fair bit by the devs, but the basic idea is good.
(And a lot of things will have done their work by then anyway, so it's not killing strategies in general ID can still kill you as can the Roil creature.)
