Booster crafting till I’m 75

So I was crafting my last rare that I needed in the Origins set yesterday and it dawned on me that I still had 19 mythic rares to make to close out the set. That was as many as I needed to complete the rares 4 months ago at 600 apiece! The mythic rares are 3000. Ixalan mythics are 7500, with just about every other set clocking in at 5000. I was doing some quick math and it dawned on me that in order to craft all If the cards that I’m missing it would take roughly 20-25 years at the rate that you earn the currency! I will be 70 years old. Anybody else find this excruciatingly tedious? I have been playing F2P/P2P games now for several years, and the one thing I still fail to understand is why they don’t make certain tasks like crafting more reasonable  to those of us who have spent x amount of dollars on their games already? Sort of like a perks/loyalty program. Spend x amount of dollars on in-game content and you get to booster craft for 25% less. Spend even more x, 50% less. Become a platinum member at x amount spent and craft for 75% less! How awesome would that be? Win-win in my book. Plus, you entice people to “invest” in your game and they are more apt to do so because there’s something at the end of that rainbow! Something. You need to do something to make it easier to acquire cards! I can’t be 75 and still waiting for enough to hopefully get Olivia, mobilized for war!

I would probably pay a $10 subscription each month to get double rewards and 75% off booster crafting

I would rather not say how much I have already spent for this game since I started about 3 months ago (I would probably cry if I new the total)

So, in saying that, I would be all over a perk system for money spent in game, just as long as it is nothing that cannot be achievable by ftp players. So no exclusives, etc. I would be happy to pay a subscription of some kind. x Crystals and Jewels and a discount on crafting for 10-20 bucks a month, I would hop on that! Seriously @Brigby, this is a pretty good idea. I would present it to the higher-ups. Just think of how many people spend $15 a month on games like World of Warcraft. This game could do this easily.

You too eh? I wish I had known at the start what I knew now. "Only buy current set and don't spend pink crystals". I wasted a ton of money on old packs before I understood that 25% and below chance for mythic actually meant 0%.

@Bullvinne I agree that if we were to theoretically implement any sort of VIP feature into the game, it would only award players content that non-VIP members could achieve as well.

The items we credit in Marvel Puzzle Quest are all resources like Iso-8, Hero Points, and Command Points, with the addition of 1 Legendary Token. Nothing exclusive :)

Glad to see I’m not the only one. I’m feeling that they also need to offer more events and more in the respective events. The Paths and Trials events are ok, but why are the Trials 40 more than the Paths and the rewards are really not very different? Trial of the plains:green for 60 crystals nets you 1 HOU booster, 750 Runes(woooo!), and 15 Mana Jewels. Ok, I didn’t fall off the turnip truck yesterday. You can Get 1 HOU booster in the vault for 60, but why would you ever DO that? So really I’m just having to pay to grind out several battles with insanely difficult opponents to basically get 15 mana jewels? I don’t count the runes because they’re insignificant and I think you should get 1,000 of them every time you log in to the game. They are only good for leveling your Planeswalkers, and that needs to be amped up a bit, imo. I’ve been trying to get my Tezzeret to level 60 for 3 months now! And while I’m on THAT subject, why does your opponent have to be 5 levels higher than you on duels? Is their AI so stupid that it needs an unfair handicap to beat you and rob you of, what? 15 crystals and 1500 runes? Good God, I might exploit the friggin game with all THAT swag! Lmao.

the higher tier you get, the more mana jewels you get.  Platinum only awards jewels, a booster, and crystals.  No runes.

Im definitely on the VIP train. I don’t spend as much as some people (I only buy PW and select cards), but I like early / exclusive content and I like supporting the game financially.

I would consider supporting the game financially if it was rewarding to do so. For example, I play Eternal a fair amount, and that game is crazy generous. Thus, I've spent likely $200+ on the game. By contrast, this game is crazy ungenerous and thus I've spent $0 on the game. I consider myself F2P, but I do put money into games where I feel like I'm rewarded as the player for playing. Buying packs in this game, though, I imagine is like buying the right to feel bad. Because those drop rates are going to slay you for your hefty purchases.

The % sign on the packs is a little wacky.  So I decide to drop some loot today on some packs.  My birthday is this weekend and since MtG PQ I is my current addiction I decided to treat myself.  6 Packs of nothing good.  While last week before sale the packs were much better.  Coincidence, bad luck?  I too vote for some kinda preferred something for ppl who pay real $.  Ill scratch your back if you scratch mine sort of thing.

I mean, probably coincidence. If they're not on top of it enough to pre-schedule events the week they go to a con, they're not on top of it enough to secretly screw you during a crystal sale. Plus, I get premium packs with no rares/mythics but the guarantee on the regular. That's the default state for my pack opening.

Speaking of marvel puzzlequest, that game let's you pick the end time for your event, why not in mtgpq to a lesser extent?

Sorry. Not to downplay your comment, but if you'd like to discuss event end times, would you mind starting a new thread to do so? Thanks!

@Brigby in Marvel do VIP members have early access to exclusive content? That would be a great selling point.

Ex: Release a PW first to cash sale for VIP members, then to sale for cash to the public 2 weeks later, then 3 weeks later in the vault.

Yep. Let's make this one of those pay-to-play games. How exciting!!!
Milk this while we can, shall we?

I don't think missing older cards is the argument to go that route. No one really needs those cards to play or enjoy the game. Sets remain relevant for only a specific specific period of time now. New sets are gonna be released every few months. You dont have to get cards from the all the sets from the start to feel or stay competitive. Start from the current set and go from there.

Everybody is free to invest Real life currencies to earn some new cards and a lot of orbs and cut a lot of years to complete there collection.  In the end  the  game survives for more than half a year if someone pay for it.

Play it your route of 'pay nothing' and live with it or pay another dollar in and did not. But it's just a game not a must  have

    This discussion is absolutely nonsense!

Considering there is no hint that this game will ever have real player vs player mode I don't really care if they do VIP mode as long as it improves everyone's experience as a result. It's already pay-to-have-more-fun.

The pace of the game is extremely slow (at least for me) I've been casually playing (f2p) since the beginning and I still have 8 mythics left from the Origins (thanks to booster crafting that allowed me to target all mising rares I still had) but I'm a collector. I enjoy every single new card more than winning an event because at some point it's just a mechanical task which outcome is seriously based on pure luck. The last time the game felt challenging for me was trying xx times to beat a story mode boss with very limited cards. Good old days.

Now I'm at the point where I can do anything with the cards I already have but I can't have fun because I can't get the cards I really really want to try out now or soon (but soon like this year). No matter how much effort I put in I am in the hand of randomness. I know I will get that card eventually but i want to have fun now or soon, not in the next decade. (I still hope I will live long enough to get Gisela, the broken Blade and meld her with Brauna :( )

To avoid this problem, many games opted for a crafting system that allows players to target specific cards. I'm not sure it would be a good option here because of the disparity beetween cards of a same rarity. If player could target, everybody would craft the best cards from the set and we would see the same decks over and over.

There is an option that could still be relevant though. As most of the competitive game is in standard, the system could allow players to target specific cards ... If only they are legacy.
That would have no impact on the main part of the game (standard), while allowing players to have fun and make their experiments in legacy (this is what legacy is made for actually).
