Battle of the Four Tribes: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Ok so as we finish out the last nodes of the first BoFT event, I figured I would post my thoughts and suggestions about the event.

The Good

First, I would like to commend the devs on interesting some interesting node mechanics on the boss events (even if a few were bugged). It did make for some interesting battles and also it allowed me to test out my tribal decks with great success as well.

The Bad and the Ugly

First, Starting with 2/3 charges means many of us had to sneak off at work to clear atleast one set of charges so we wouldnt loose any. Its what I had to do. Please change this to 1/3 starting charges!

Second, why bring back 5 nodes? It wasnt fun in AM and its not fun here. Return of the God Pharoah was a great example for the length of an event. 3 nodes is where its at. 5 nodes takes way to long to clear, about an hour to an hour and a half for me. Thats crazy! Not only that the last two events we have gotten RtO and BoFT are both 5 nodes! Please reconsider taking BoFt down to 3 nodes!

Third, What the heck is with 1000 ribbons to make progression in this event??? If our Alliance's math was right, the max possible ribbons if you played perfectly was somewhere in the 1,100 range, meaning you could only miss 100 ribbons give or take to still have a shot at progression. This is really only doable by top 10 players as thats a 90% completion rate! I did my best and I was amazed I got to 911 ribbons, but many in my Top 50 coalition only got some where in the 500-600 range. This needs to be adjusted, Every other event I can think of stops progression somewhere around 60-70% of max number of ribbons, this needs to follow that. I would say somewhere in the 600-700 range should be the top end of progression, please review this!

Lastly, and most importantly, can we stop having Coalition events in the middle of the week??? This is just the worst. Individual events like Revolt Against the Consulate, or the Gatewatch ones should be what gets ran during the week. With individual events we can chose to participate or not without worrying about our Coalition. But if its a coalition event, I feel compelled to participate, which means running off to the restroom more then I should to clear nodes during work. If any of my complaints/suggestions gets heard, its this one. Coalition events should be kept for the weekend only.

Thanks,

Bullvinne

    The Good for me

I loved the 3-ability bosses!  Felt like I was actually facing another player, who just-so-happened to be a boss.  Mixed with weird special gems for each battle, it really caught my attention at a level most matches haven't done in a long time.  Win or lose, I thoroughly enjoyed those matches.

I did actually enjoy the extra nodes since the recharge time took a while.  More different matches = more fun.

    The Bad

1000 points is very steep, given the difficulty of some bosses (which I'll address upon in the ugly).  I played each node fully and am finishing at 832.  Yeah I didn't use cycling, and some of the matches I made specific theme decks for fun (ex: my lvl 25 Vraska with all pirate-themed cards vs the old Pirate Queen boss for an intense battle that I barely lost but was tons of fun).  Overall the matches were fun, but a player at my level shouldn't still be almost 200 points shy of completion, I can't imagine how lower level players could make it...

The prizes were meh.  It's a Rivals event, don't waste our time with Ixalan packs.  Ixalan was like a bad break-up, we need to stop looking back and move forward.

    The Ugly

Azor's Gateway is the Empire's Death Star, and it comes with batteries included.  I was hit for 999 damage on turn 4.  Pull the gameshark out of that boss's tinykitty and make it more fun to face (maybe 20-30 loyalty required to activate the instant-kill instead of a mere 9).

    Toodles,

I loved the boss with new mechanics and interactions with loyalty supports and gems.

I did not love the 1000 target to finish progression.

5 nodes, are ok to me. I could finish without issue. BUT, in a full work week it will be a tinykitty objective

I must say that the 5 nodes make much sense  : 4 tribes + azor's lair is well designed... The problem is progression requirements.
I also really like the theme nodes and the bosses with proper mechanics on each node ... Once again great ideas coming from oktagon.

The 1000 points for progression are over-abusive ... For such an effort , rewards look ridiculous ....

For 45 perfect nodes you get :
      - 75 gold ( about the same as a basic legacy pve)
      - 25 pinks (same as a single across ixalan )
      - origin booster ( ... Seriously? )
      - XLN booster ( awful droprate makes it useless)
      - 4000 runes ( just to fill rewardless slots, right?)
      - 2 RIX boosters (looks like the holy grail ...)

Apart from RIX boosters, you would almost get more currencies by playing a single AI and a single Legacy PVE for 12 games (which gives you a guaranteed rare on top of it)

As a fairly new player I enjoyed the encounters outside of Azor's Gate. They were tough, but manageable and the times I lost didn't feel lame and I came back with new decks and tactics and was able to beat every encounter and get 2/3 on most fights.

The gate was just stupid. It was so bad I actually think they should compensate the entire playerbase for even including it. Frustrating and discouraging.

Not a fan of the crazy amount of ribbons needed either.

I had no major complaints except that I hate 5-node events. They take so much longer because they require 15 decklists instead of 9 decklists. The number of matches seems to work out the same as a 3-node event, but managing all of those decks is a huge time sink and mental burden that I don't particularly enjoy.

I really like the underlying event.  But please:
    1) Change progression to something like 600.
    2) Raise the max charges to 5 or 6.  3 is just stupid.
    3) Don’t do this on weekdays.
    4) PLEASE give us 12 hours after the last charge or boss death.

Thanks for a mostly well done PvE coalition event.

I actually don't mind the long progression rewards. As people get more used to the event, they will figure out how to beat these bosses more safely. More and more people will be able to hit progression as we master the event.

They could actually invert the rewards though. Rivals packs are so hard to come by for free. If we got them first instead of last, progression would feel like an extra bonus instead of feeling like you missed out by not reaching it.

Well, this event took a lot of time, even more considering weekdays. Not only because of 5 nodes, but also because of several fights vs 300HP+ opponents. Even for weekends I feel it would be too much time.

4 tribes, why not 4 nodes? Or even 3, as we could have 2 tribes in the same node. You know, nodes could have more than 3 opponents, maybe 4-5. 3 is not really necessary, so adding more opponents each node, you can add diversity while keeping the number of fights a bit lower. Other options: halve the HP of those creatures, or increase the charge time to 12 hours. Starting at 2 charges having a maximum of 3 is also very bad, like several people said.

That said, I'm not against the long progression. I'm ok with not all being able to complete the entire progression, but the rewards for something that is long and hard should be great and appealing, not a single booster.

I liked getting a guaranted mythic (as I'm part of a T10 coalition), but is it going to remain the same card for next events? And, in fact, I feel there is time to have orbs as rewards. Why not? Even for 1000 pts, the prize could be like 3000 orbs, so I can get a legacy mythic or some rares.

Congratulations on your guaranteed mythic.  A fun change in the rewards for next event: You could always be a benevolent winner and help other coalitions make the top 10 next time, so other people have a chance at that card.

What's more valuable really?  Another legacy mythic or the admiration of other teams? ;)
