Crit + Environmental Tiles Change?

The crit tile with environmental tiles (specifically, forest) seems to only be working about a third of the time now. What am I missing? Earlier it didn't work in a cascade with just two tiles, just now a crit tile was the third spot in in a foursome of environmental tiles and I only got 9 environmental AP from the row.

What madness is this?!

  • I've noticed it on the desert as well, not giving enough AP. Also when the critical tile is create in midair and is next to environmental tiles, it won't shatter with them and just drops, but it will shatter mid air with colored tiles. This game gets worse and worse by the day.
  • That happened to me too after I posted. In forest again. UGH!

Is it making a double match, by any chance? Env matches have the lowest priority for that
  • There are 2 situation where you will not as many EAP as you normally get.

You get less environment AP from cascade chain, each subsequent match in a cascade give diminishing return on EAP, just like how you get less and less damage from a normal match in a cascade. You will notice if a cascade chain is long enough you will start getting 1 damage from match.

The other situation is that you can be making a double match that include both normal and environment tiles. Some time Environment tiles take priority some time the normal tiles take priority giving you normal amount of EAP.

It was always like this, not a change. May be you are just unaware of the mechanic.

There are 2 very useful thread already made for these issue, may be you should try the search function next time as well.

  • No, read my post. I'm saying sometimes it straight up doesn't work like it's supposed to. Like when it was the third in match 4 of forest tiles, and I cleared the whole row. There was no cross match to the crit tile, it was just the row, and I only received 9 env AP. It happened in a cascade I suppose, but it was the second move in a cascade that got it there (the first move created the crit tile, then the tiles dropped down from above and yay, a foursome of env with a crit and wat, only 9 env AP. This is the most blatant example but there were other times it didn't work at all. When I have a crit tile just lying on the board, most of the time I will try to match env tiles. Sometimes it gives me the AP, sometimes it doesn't. That's not normal and has never been the way it was.
  • I've seen the scenario described quite a few times but I have no reason to believe that this isn't just because stuff is blowing up too fast for me to keep track of what the crit tile matched first. Note that if you have a double match, the second match is considered as the 1st cascade. Something that looks like 'RRRRYYYB' also counts as a double match, even though you'd think the RRRR ought to clear the whole row, but the game considers that as two separate matches. So it is very easy to rack up very considerable cascade penalties from just a single move.
  • The crit tile was the third of four. So YYBEECER. Where C is the crit tile and E is the env tile. Not like, EEECYYBR. And no cross match, only the row cleared, no other matches in that wave.
  • Yes the forest one take a little more now.
