Percentages are a thing and release schedule is another one. Players probably decided to spend gold on XLN while the orb bonus was available, and planed saving some currencies for RIX after the first month.
It is imposible that the devs didnt foresee players would try to take benefit from the orb bonus ... But they still took players by surprise with RIX just after that.

If you ask me i would say that this surprise release was effectively done on purpose so players would be more likely to spend money for rivals packs.

In fact, there are a lot of little, discrete things that point to a "not so transparent" comercial strategy.

      - Enhanced gold cost and droprates for the last extension, for packs that are not available through events.
       - Events that reward older boosters (xln) with LOWERED droprates instead of the recent ones (rix).
       - BO4T, the big RIX event, that offers origins and xln boosters as progression rewards  (origins ... Seriously?) ... Instead of RIX boosters ...
       - significantly reduced currencies in bundles without any obvious reason.

Looks already enough to me but I'm pretty sure we could find more little tricks (hmmm HOU boosters in Totp?) ...
In fact everything has been done in order to make RIX boosters unaccessible to most players ... (every player actually ... except top 10 coalitions that can at least get a few from BO4T).

I like a lot of things about oktagon work but in this case sneaky is really the least we can say ...

I will say that the adjustment to a lot of the XLN cards with the release of RIX has improved it's worthiness greatly. I would say both sets are on pretty equal footing overall. I do agree though that a tentative release schedule would be nice. I have no doubt the quick sequential releases was intentionally unmentioned so that people would blow a lot of resources on XLN and then be left feeling short for RIX and therefor more likely to fork over cold hard cash.
awwwww I didn't even think about that.  Sneaky sneaky Octagon, sneaky sneaky
Not spending a single pink on Ixalan was the best choice dude! Im really glad i saved all of them :)

Yeah I'm glad I did that too.  It was so tempting to spend the pink crystals but the wait was worth it :)

Yep. Absolutely worth it on the RIX set. Got 1 mythic and 3 rares from the first premium pack purchase alone. It's at least getting to the latter part of the month. So at least the daily rewards have larger crystal gifts to make more purchases.

To add to the premium pack odds pic from earlier.

    Basic pack odds:
    common, 97.29%
    uncommon, 91.89%
    rare, 30.94%
    mythic, 9.37%
    master, 0.00%

If you feel confident in your luck. Those are slightly lower than a super pack of IXL.

This is why we need events with rarity restrictions. Like an only commons and uncommon event--no rares, no mythics, no masterpieces and how about no cycling, too. That would encourage creative deck building and everyone would be able to compete.

With no rares, cycling would be fine and actually work as intended. I would love some pauper style events!
