Hi Everyone,

Some of you have been asking for a sneak preview of the upcoming Rivals of Ixalan cards lately. While we unfortunately won't be able to update the card gallery until a few days after release, we still wanted to give everyone a look at the card details ahead of time, so players can prepare for when it's available in-game.

Let us know what you think, down below in the comments!

Is there a ballpark release date?

@Brigby  thanks for the preview.  Is it possible to append a column showing costs? That seems the be the make-or-break detail.

I'd it just me, or are common and uncommon cards getting more and more complicated? I though common and uncommon cards were supposed to be simpler, but balanced in the paper mtg philosophy. Did that change, or is it something particular to this game?

Indeed. It's hard to say without seeing the mana costs, but I like some of the ideas and creativity being shown as far as card interaction.

Brigby, this is awesome! I wish we had creature size and casting cost, but I'll take what I can get for now.

Any word on an expected release date?

And power/toughness of creatures. And shield counts of supports. And abilities of creatures. Pretty please.

@Brigby Could you get clarification from the devs on...

Polyraptor: ("at the end of the turn reinforce this creature until the end of the turn") this makes no sense
Rekindling Phoenix:  Does it return all copies, or just one?
Path of Mettle:  Does it give its buff to only dinos and humans?  Its a bit confusingly worded

Also, will there be some sort of icon indicating if you have the city's blessing?  It will probably be a bit annoying and difficult to keep track of.

Otherwise, great spoilers!!  I can't wait to see the final details, some of these cards look really fun.  I love all the board interactions and funky triggers, it'll be cool to build around

These are looking pretty good!  The one exception is Polyraptor - why pump something at the end of the turn until the end of the turn?

To clarify Polyraptor, at least my understanding, is this: When it takes damage it gains "At the end of your turn, reinforce this creature", until the end of your turn. So it gains "At the end of your turn, reinforce this creature" only for the turn it was enraged. This means it will reinforce at the end of each turn in which it was dealt damage. But it will not retain that ability each subsequent turn. The reinforcement is permanent, the ability which caused the reinforcement is not. I believe the gaining of the ability is to prevent if from reinforcing more than once each turn from multiple different sources of damage triggering separate enrage effects.

This could be cleared up much more easily though: "Enrage: At the end of your turn, this creature is reinforced. This ability cannot be triggered more than once each turn."

@ZW2007- that makes some sense if that's how it works...

All those people annoyed by Omniscience should rejoice. They'll have an answer to Omni loops in the form of Sphinx's Decree, an uncommon.  :)

Ooooh that's nasty. A must-have. There's no easy way to get rid of supports without spells either.

Red has Manglehorn and a few of the ETB board bombers (Rambler, Abbott, the pirate) but that's about all I can think of.

Well at least you figured out not putting "This support loses 1 shield" on damn near every support in the set. Now go back and remove it from the majority of the Ixalan ones because it doesn't belong and it makes them vastly inferior to previous sets supports.

Omni is a support and it can fuel other supports and creatures. I suppose it will stop Whir from bringing it back but that’s also going to exit Standard with the launch of this set.

No, it's not. Kaladesh/Aether Revolt aren't leaving Standard until Dominaria.

Whir of Invention, however, is leaving, which will tame Omnicience decks.  Also Brigsby said earlier that Kaladesh and Aether Revolt are leaving with Rivals. They're not following the same rotation as paper sets.

    Manglehorn is green.
