Jace 3 first power on countdown?

Playing around with " dirty jace" I found his first power to be a real dud. It's a 3 shield that loses one at end of turn.

Why? It's not so powerful to unhinged the game play, and 3 shields are easily undone.

Why not remove the countdown and one shield or increase the shield count to six?

most likely it is unblockable part of it that they made it count down because it can be hard to deal with for  some pws with lack of removal, but i do agree with you on that.

Enough with the support countdown shields shenanigans. It's fine that we see that on Aether Gonti's Heart, Swarm Intelligence, Omniscience and probably Aggravated Assault would be good as well, but I have yet to find a broken support in Ixalan that truly needs that. It's down-powering cards heavily, it's not being fun, and seeing it on some of those cards is like "erm... what?!" Jace3 included. I'm glad I didn't even consider getting him if he's THAT downpowered. I almost never ultimate on Vraska,  another silly countdown support, since that feels like a super bad Demonic Pact and/or Cruel Reality.

I actually regret buying him with this tinykitty first power....

And his other 2 abilities are Garruk in blue.  Did we really need Garruk in blue?

Yes, clearly a support which gives Unblockable is just TOO STRONG and needs to lose a shield every turn. That's why people are always complaining about how TOTALLY OP Rogue's Passage is, right? :s

The unblockable is just on the creature until the end of turn. The support only does the loot effect, which at higher levels discarding 1 card to draw 4 is pretty powerful. It's basically like playing Pull from Tomorrow for free on every turn.

that is all well and fine but still need the space in your hand and need to have the mana to cast the cards the next turn, which it doesnt do

You throw away what you don't want before combat, except one card, and draw a bunch of new one. Pretty strong.

and this is different how than the countless ways that mtg already has this? it needs to be put on a counter when all those other ways arent?

Other methods aren't repeated for free every turn to draw you directly into what you need, again without paying anything for it.

    From another player's post....

THIS is why being able to draw 4-5 cards a turn for free is powerful :P

The way I read it was that the unblockable was until end of turn at level 3 of the ability, and permanent at level 4. Am I wrong?

"without paying anything for it" - except that you *are* paying for it, you're paying for it in loyalty points, and more significantly, you're paying for it with the opportunity cost of not using a different PW with a different ability. Personally, Sorin taught me, and Samut reinforced the lesson, that Planeswalker's 1st abilities that do absolutely nothing when you have an empty board are...not ideal.

Seems like a fair design choice. They're essentially free.
