ISO Nerf in PvP / Lightning Rounds [i.e. Cover rewards]

So initially, I thought the idea of chance of covers in PvP was neat, especially since it helps new players get up and running faster, but then I started paying attention.

Basically, the cover rewards replace the ISO 140 rewards (though you still occasionally get those), but you rarely get uncommon covers. Common covers sell for ISO 100, so it amounts to a net reduction of 40 ISO per junk cover you get. I quickly noticed playing through Top Gun a little that I'd accumulated less ISO than I was used to, and I think it can be pretty much attributed to this fact.

I know it's unlikely Demiurge will change it back (or alternatively, make it so that * covers replace ISO 70 rewards, and ** covers replace ISO 140 rewards), but thought I'd call attention to it, so people are aware of the change, and can complain if they have a mind too. icon_lol.gif

    Check the 5/8 Patch Notes. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7022
    -Added in new random rewards for finishing Versus battles. In addition to the normal 70/140 Iso-8 rewards, it is now possible to pull any 1* or 2* character. These Comic Cover rewards are balanced in frequency so that the overall Iso-8 rewards assuming that you sell all covers is equal to the previous rewards in Versus.

    Just did a double check on the numbers since the patch in question went out. We're giving out a steady average of ~105 per battle give or take an Iso here or there after the change. Note that this assumes that you are selling all received covers.

    I'll bet you that the rate of which 2* covers are given out (which is 250iso compared to the 140 iso) makes up for the increased number of 1* covers compared to 140 iso. I'm starting to get tired of these conspiracy theory types of threads: I suppose its possible that they skimmed some iso off of the top, but I would let mischiefmaker's token spading thread (or a direct response from the devs) figure that out rather than just assuming that it's the case.
  • If they didn't put the 'sell all' cover feature, this would be a nerf for iso 8 gain because selling all those covers would otherwise take a while!

    I don't know. From when this change started, I've gotten all of one 2* cover, everything else are 1*'s. I've got around 20-30 in my rewards now, and had already sold at least 10-20 others.

    yes, 100 > 70. But 100 < 140, which I seemed to get more frequently.

    I think the covers are a great idea, but it's just like having a stack of standards and everyone being hawkeye. Would you rather have hawkeye, or 140iso? I guess that's the question.

    What makes you think that only iso 140 rewards were replaced with covers and not some division between 70 and 140?

    I have gotten numerous one stars, but just when I was getting irritated at the perceived reduction in rewards, I got 3 two stars, 1 was a black OBW, which I couldn't use, and 2 classic storms, allowing me to cover max her. I guess for now I can't complain about any reduction in ISO.... yet.
  • I got four 2* covers from my participation in top gun. It was maybe 30 matches. I also saw 1* covers happen more often than 70 ISO, and 140 ISO happened at least twice.

    I, personally, believe what iceIX is saying about the averages.

    I got several ** covers. I'm sure I got no less ISO from games, maybe little more. What you see is just RNG unfolding.

    The RNG looks like client dependent -- i.e. my *** rate from gold tokens is less than half of average on whatever timeframes -- while others get well more, you may get hit by similar dip or just look at a small sample.
  • It was stated in the patch notes that the amount of rewards given are actually adjusted to be the same as before. Also, Ice9 just confirmed it in this topic one more time. There is no reason to lament about your luck here.

    I've tracked my rewards over the past day or so, and I'm willing to confirm this now, based on my results.     Anyway, my results were 100-101 or so, so possibly a slight decline, but more likely just individual variation. At one point it also bumped up to 104. ** covers seemed to come up about 3% of the time.

    Sort of a related question. Has player participation and frequency of play been effected much by the downgrade of tokens in lightning rounds?
