Vizier of many faces embalm gem

Playing against the AI, I noticed that whenever the opponent's Vizier of Many Faces embalm gem appeared on the battlefield, it would disappear at the beginning of my turn and not reappear later. There were no effects in play to exile graveyards at the end of turn. So this gem should have remained in play when my turn began.
