Do you remember a MTGPQ match you fought that really stuck with you?  Did you emerge triumphant at the last minute or were so close to victory you could taste it?  Decide if you want to share your story and explain what happened!

If you do decide to share, please include brief details of what any non-mainstream cards do so we don't all have to look them up.  Thanks! ;)

I faced a lvl 60 Liliana Death's Majesty, that in addition to an arsenal of destroy spells and zombies (plus Liliana's Majesty, making zombies and giving all zombies +2/+2), used her 1st ability (Destroy target creature, bring it back as a zombie with +3/+3) on her Platinum Angel (Damage to planeswalker prevented, put a -1/-1 counter on this creature for each occurrence of damage dealt).

Very tricky match as I was playing a deck that didn't have creature removal, and every time I almost hit my opponent enough times to kill the angel, Liliana just destroyed it and brought it back, recharged and buffed.  I was able to win that match eventually, but barely with less than 10hp.

Thought it was a fairly creative deck though, and one that definitely caught my attention and was fun to fight :)

I just wanted to vote for the batman option.

But my story will lack details because I don't remember the specifics.  The reason it did stick with me was the fact that Greg (and the creator of his deck) took off out of the gate and proceeded to pummel me to 1HP.  Then my deck finally decided to work like I built it and I came back to win.

Those kind of games are the best because it is close.

Yeah like 10 seconds after I posted this poll I was like "Wait...I think I just made not participating sound more fun than participating." and facepalmed.  It's all good though, as the poll is really just an additional element to a thread of story sharing :)

I definitely agree with you, the close games are the most enjoyable for me too!

My most memorable one is one of the first time i got a kiora loop deck to run: part the waterveil, prism array and some gem changers.

I was down to one life when loo finally kicked in, nissa 's renewal from her back to full health and from then it took 3 turns to lethal. I jumped with excitement  Since then decks have been my fave!

One time, I lost a battle to a full-on Dovin Cycling deck. It's stuck with me because I can't believe I lost to a full-on Dovin Cycling deck.

I posted about this somewhere else, but I recently went almost 90 BL turns against @Mainloop25 (name posted with permission) -- it was my Nyx Lockdown A1j against his removal Aj1 on the red node of HoR -- he wasn't casting creatures, event though they were in the deck -- his hand kept getting locked full of removal spells.

I had to slowly feed AI my own creatures to kill in order for him to cast enough for me to take out.

In the end I won with all objectives and took 0 damage. However, after that match, I changed my deck, took out Glorybringer and put in Lightning Runner so I would have a cheaper creature to get out. Building up 16+ mana over and over was exhausting.

Will try to update later with SS -- have to dig for them.

I love playing Mainloop's decks for this reason -- they're beatable, but you have to think outside the box and play in ways you normally don't have to.

So, I run Training Grounds with a level one Liliana, Death's Majesty (in Silver). Once I decided to play right when it started… and got a level 60 Ob Nixilis. He ended up being creatureless, but the next opponent to show up was a Nissa above level 40 (my memory's a bit fuzzy, this was several months ago). The AI repeatedly cascaded into big creatures, and I drew just enough kill spells to keep up. It's so nice when you draw just the right cards, and get just enough mana. The best part? My deck was all uncommon and common, I still only run one rare.

I even have Batman's car from the old Adam West show...

I was playing Nahiri vs Saheeli, it was going great, I was on full life and they were down to 20 when they cleared my creatures out with Boomship and started beating me down. I got control back and then they did it _again_. (Luckily it wasn't enraged! I hate enraged, it ruins the chance of recoery!)

In the end we were _both_ on 1 life (seriously), they had 3 creatures out including a blocker and I had a single Gisela.

I won through Nahiri's 3rd ability, nothing else would've worked.

The first time I beat Tezzeret the Schemer. Man that guy was tough. We haven’t had a boss like that since.

My most memorable game was from an epic cascade of gems. I was running Koth, but I don't remember who my opponent was. Not that it mattered much, after the gem dust settled it was an easy win.

I had Hangarback Walker in play and a pair of Abbots of Keral Keep in my hand. In short, the cascade is able to cast both of the Abbots, each one adding fuel to the fire.

I took screen shots of the battle log and counted everything up: 12 triggers of Hangarback, 23 loyalty, and a whopping 119 mana that turn.

So I won that game :)

So, things don't stay in my head very long, I probably have better, more truly "epic" stories than this that I just don't remember anymore, but recently I've been working on getting 100% of all of Story Mode. There's some really weird stuff in Story Mode, you guys.

Take this exercise in making things hard on yourself: the "Guardians of Meletis" fight in Origins, Chapter One has an objective that is "kill 6 or more enemy creatures", which seemed like it would mostly be an exercise in patience, because it's got like 60 hit points and a basically harmless deck. I loaded up Nicol Bolas and figured, "okay, I'll just sit there and do nothing while I wait for him to play 6 creatures and pick them off one by one." Boring but easy, right?

Well, it turns out Guardians of Meletis has literally one creature in its deck: Chief of the Foundry. One buff spell, for his one creature. No removal or interaction with my side of the board at all. The rest is all creature-buffing supports and mana-gain supports. So....must've been twenty minutes later, after he's played an absurd number of bad Origins common supports, I've killed four Foundry Chiefs when I realize, oh ****, stupid Greg must've filled his entire hand with buff spells, and he won't play them on my stuff and he can't draw any cards so he can't play any creatures and I can't make him discard (wrong deck for that), and so I....can't complete the objective.

I should've been smart, tossed a couple discard spells in my Bolas deck to prevent that from happening again, and just given it another shot. I am not that smart, apparently; I decided, in my infinite wisdom (hah!) that the fast way to get this objective done without having to wait for him to draw into his one creature six times is to throw together a green deck with Dubious Challenge and a couple of small-ish critters with Defender that will trade with his Foundry Chief but won't accidentally go overboard and kill him too quickly. And I don't want to take apart any of my good green decks for this, but he's harmless, so I load up my level 1 Garruk that I never use for anything. So, the game's going along, he's played a bunch of mana supports, I want to hurry things along so I drop a Dubious Challenge and force out one of his Chiefs and one of my own chump-blockers to trade with it, and then it's his turn.

Well, all those mana supports of his trigger a massive cascade at the start of his turn. He drops a Sigil of Valor and...then I find out what that buff spell cluttering up his hand the prior game was. Helm of the Gods. Ooops. Drops 2x Helm of the Gods on the Chief of the Foundry I cheated into play for him. Suddenly I'm looking at a 12/13 with first strike, and reeeeally wishing I'd leveled up Garruk a bit more. Steamrolls my chump blocker of course. I take a beating the next turn and then scramble to kill it, only to have him drop his own Chief and immediately hit it with another Helm of the Gods. At this point I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to actually lose to a stupid Chapter One Story Mode fight.

By the time I eventually did turn it around and regain control of the battle enough to finish him off, I was at 9 life and had killed 7 of his Chiefs...6 for the objective, and 1 more because it was a turn away from killing me!

The lesson to be learned here is clear, I think: the "ultimate battle" is the one we must each fight against our own stupidity our foolish hubris ourselves. :D

So my most epic battle probably happened a while ago during the Trial of Ambition event on the black node. I was playing Liliana3 zombies and I think my opponent was a Gideon1 (you can probably find more details about it also in the bugs section).

This match was truly epic for me because I ended up dealing with the Indestructible opponent bug, due to a popped Gideon's Intervention. This was the first time I could actually test Liliana's powers to their full extent.
In spite of having little to no creature support, I was able to deal with all sorts of horrible supports, including Starfield of Nyx, Gideon's Intervention and Sigil of the Empty Throne. By the time I had gotten bored trying to deal any damage to my opponent, his board presence was 0!

I think thorough the match I destroyed at the very least 30 creatures (with a combination of Cruel Reality, spells and No Mercy), Drained my opponent countless amounts of life with the lifedraining zombie, and smashed his face with the recurring zombie that was already 100+.

Suffice to say, my board state was so well developed and the match lasted for so long I could have killed an army of Gideons.

    @Stormcrow

Woooooooow lol.  Yeah I think I remember having significant difficulty with that "boss" as well, and having to carefully craft a deck to complete that objective, but my story with that isn't nearly as entertaining as yours :)

    @Tilwin90

    That's impressive!  I don't think I've ever buffed a zombie to 100+

Well when you face an invincible opponent you can keep dealing arbitrary amounts of damage, it can degenerate... I'm still waiting to run into an invincible opponent with one of my energy or Khenra combo decks, to see how far I can pump my side until the game crashes.  :p

So I was facing a U/G walker, the Nissa one I think, and I was using the usual strategy for the walker I had and suddenly, Omniloop, I was stuck watching in stunned silence as the rest of the game played out, forced to watch as the AI killed itself with the draws because I was using my creatureless Ob and had just set up his ultimate and each draw in the loop cost the AI 8 life In the end there was a massive creature that never got any use because the turn was  interrupted by the sudden death of the AI.

I had an Omniloop happen just today, but I had a Harsh Mentor out.  In 1 turn, 100 life Kiora comboed herself to death ;)

I had a great match against Kiora today where I was feeding her creatures to Frog and steal with Lay Claim in order to get my 3 creatures kills on the red node of HoR.

Took awhile and was really fun once I got it going.

This was my last match in one of the Elspeth HoD events. I had a perfect run and got paired against another Elspeth. Normally not really a big deal. The match began slow, but after round three or so I was being left without good choices to match, got little mana, while the AI build up defenses and managed to destroy whatever reaction I'd come up with. It felt like being two steps behind for the longest period, and this is where that led us:

I managed to get rid of the 5/5 guy through giving defender to my Crested Sunmare, but the flier got through leading to me going down to two life. I actually thought that this was it, but then the craziness happened: Elspeth's soldier created that token in the first row, which I could match thus destroying the flier.

The danger was not banned completely, but I regained ground, and managed in one last crazy turn even to build up my defense so that the AI vehicles could not come through.

The result was a win with all objectives and that feeling of being unbelievably lucky when one single activated gem decides if you are getting 300 or 40 unobtanium. By far my most suspenseful match in the most relevant event.
