@Irishme : From the sounds of where you are right now, and I realized I am making assumptions, when I was there I where you are I focused on packs for a bit until I got the cards that supported the PWs I had. Again, take it slow and steady, get what you need to compete and focus on a few PWs for now.

@Irishme imo you only need 5 usable planeswalkers to cover
the different colours on each event. maybe focus on what card
combos you have and put together something for each colour?
there are budget decks that are quite usable, especially on the
tiers below platinum(I'm assuming you don't have the card
    mastery to be in platinum).

I first worked on the starters.  Then got kiora and that was a game changer for me.  So I mistakenly always got every PW when they came out.  Lol now I have a ton of lvl 1 PWs and no cards.

Still think they should add a few more runes to events or even a rune event itself.

I’m platinum.  One thing I am is a dedicated everyday player.  All my cards are mastered.  When I get a new one, first thing I do is master it on HE.

no offense, but that sounds incredibly tedious and dull...considering the high quantity of useless cards in this game ;)

@FindingHeart8 man it really really is.  I do HE at least 50 times a day.  That at least gives me some form of accomplishment to get through doing again.

    I stand corrected.
a possible solution is to focus on cycling. save crystals to
buy akh packs in the hopes of pulling new perspectives,
drake haven, shefet monitor. it'll be a bit boring but once
you have those cards, you can cycle to victory many
battles(blue goes on any colour node that is unlocked,
you just need to choose a suitable planeswalker). getting
wins will eventually get you better non cycling cards.

Lol @hawkyh1 I just got drake haven a few days ago, been cycling when I’m able. I don’t have the other two and barely 9 other cards with cycling so it’s still somewhat of a challenge.  This goes back to the rune gain discussion.  The only blue PW I have leveled up is Kiora since I didn’t have many decent blue cards.  Now trying to get up my other blue duals to use it more which is proving difficult.

This is why I suggest there should be some faster way to get runes.  Without doing HE over and over, it would take weeks to get a dual color even into the 50’s to make them usable.  I think it will turn away a lot of players.  I also don’t mean getting 100k a day type events, but maybe extend training ground to ten battles with 1k runes at seven wins and 2k at ten wins.

@Irishme I do hear you. More interesting and rewarding paths to runes is something we should strive for.

what I'm saying is you do not need the game to make it
easier to acquire runes. bronze runes rewards are lower
than that of silver who in turn gets fewer runes than gold
etc. yet each tier has players that make do with what
they have. I usually use either a level 40 or 46 during
events. leveling up to level 60 only evens the battle a
little as you don't face opponents that are 10 levels higher
than you. beating opponents 10 levels higher than you
enough times to reach progression and beyond is possible.
it requires some good card combo's. for example if you had
new perspectives and drake haven. all you would need is
some low rarity cycle cards. 9 cycle cards is too many :)
you need enough to be able to cycle, you don't need to
fill the rest of your deck with cycle cards. you don't need a
level 60 planeswalker as new perspectives gives you all
the mana that you need to cycle a large drake token. your
planeswalker only needs to be a high enough level to
survive for long enough to create a big enough drake
    token and win.
it's perfectly possible to compete at platinum using level
    46 and lower planeswalkers.

Hey I just faced off against your Samut deck in game, you put up a good fight :)

I still suggest that when a new card is mastered you get a small number of runes (based on mastery points) and a small amount of experience for _that_ PW, so then when you want to level with someone you can just play them over and over with unmastered cards.

This adds an actual _fun_ driver to all kinds of other parts of the game.

Like a few people have suggested, one of the best Rune grinding spot these days is the Story Mode Heroic Planeswalker challenge. As long as you know whom to fight, 250 runes a pop is a breeze.

My personal suggestion is Heroic Liliana 3. She only starts with a measly 2/2 Zombie on the board, and her only removal is Fleshbag Marauder. I believe even newbie players with scarce collection should be able to take her down relatively easily, especially if they have, say, Lifelink.

I smash the first Nissa.  She has no removal, no support destruction, and no direct damage. Plus she usually casts mage ring responder, which is a wasted card.  Just need good creature removal.
