Can someone explain what just happened? (PVP Question)

On a whim I just decided to enter the Dr. Doom PVP event - I did ONE fight in the whole thing with 2 minutes left. Won, got 31 ranking points.

Ended up the event at rank TWENTY TWO and now I'm getting a Falcon token.

  • You got lucky.

The bracket right before you filled up to max, and when you started, it was in a new bracket. You were one of the few people who joined in the last 2 minutes, so your bracket might only have had 50 or so people in it.

If you started 5 minutes earlier, you would have been in the previous bracket and been last place

Interesting - thanks for the response. As someone who doesn't PVP this seems awfully unfair to people who spend 2 days grinding out for the top 50 places. I could basically not do any PVP for the whole event and take a chance on getting ranked highly in a new bracket. My originally intention was to come in, try and get a recruit token and some ISO.
  • It's not unfair, it's just luck.

You just happened to get a lucky break icon_e_biggrin.gif

I would not predict it to happen often if you try to do the same again

A lot of us would actually avoid doing that, as we want high progression point totals for Season 1.

Depends what your goal is. You got a nice haul of prizes (by chance) but missed out on a bunch of progression prizes (plus the ISO you win from winning matches).

I would advise to enter earlier if you only intend to get some ISO and tokens, because you may hurt someone else's chances for covers. Glad you got the unexpected cover, though.
  • The chance of getting such good luck is pretty low since statistically you're much more likely to be filling a bracket that has at least 50 or so guys who already played a game before you and that'd put you out of top 50. Obviously if you only plan to play one game you might as well do it at the end, but the progression prizes are considerable and useful for building up your roster at the low end, and at the high end you'll have to play a lot for placement as well as the season bracket so you might as well play relatively early.
